Forums - Sony Discussion - Why people are overestimating the Wii's life time sales

They think it will have a DS like sales compared to the PSP. If you look at the Ds on a normal week, they typically out sell the psp 2-1 on a weekly basis and hold about a 75%-80% marketshare in handheld market.

If you look at the Wii sales on a weekly basis, they typically hold a 40%-55%% marketshare on a weekly basis. This means   Xbox 360+ PS3 > Wii.  The best case scenerio in the future will be   ratios of Nintendo with 50% xbox with 25% and PS3 with 25% marketshare. They get half. But in reality, as prices go down and muticonsole ownership goes up, it will probably be more like Wii-40% xbox-30% and PS3 -30% marketshare. It will be a very close 3 horse race in reality.

You're basically asking why the site is in love with Nintendo...

Why are you underestimating the Wii's life time sales?

See, I can do that too. Why? Because it'll be a few years before we know whether people are over or underestimating.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Because they don't stop and think how well Nintendo consoles are made compared to Sony's who's break down easily, which is a why I believe a significant number of PS1/PS2 purchases are by the same people buying after breakdown.

People are basing their estimates off of PS2 sales. Since the Wii is selling at a much higher rate than the PS2 did at this time in its life, the assumption is it will outsell the PS2's lifetime sales.

Originally I have always said that the Wii will end around 80-90m with the other two being anywhere from 40m to 60m. But, given the number of new gamers to the market and such I think the other two will still be around 40-60m but the Wii will definitely reach 120m+ beating the PS2 lifetime sales.

I believe that the reason the NES sold so well is that people dropped them off of 30 story high buildings and had to rebuy them.

Exciting new console, unlike any other with no competition.

Thank god. I thought I was the only person that got that frustrated playing while playing Yo Noid!

Bzzt, wrong.  Clearly it was Power Glove that sold the system.

As a side note, the community here likes Nintendo so you'll just have to learn to get used to it.   Or stop scaring away 360/PS3 fans.

If possibly Nintendo sells 100 million units, I think the 360 and PS3 will each sell 65 million units. So a strong 3 horse race.
