Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dragon Quest IX Hype Thread - Target July 11th

Okay, so for some reason, my posts keep getting deleated, so here goes yet another attempt to post...

It seems the preliminary data for how well Dragon Quest IX sold has been released finally.  VGChartz has it selling about 47,000 units, which is somewhat better the initial sales for the recent DS entries in the series.  But I'd blame the lack of stock in stores for the actual lack of sales than lack of interest.  As plenty of people have reported stores selling out of the title.

I forsee stores ordering many more copies of this game down the road.  Hopefully the game will have some nice legs.  And hopefully Nintendo will market the game beyondits initial first few weeks.

I'm a bit confused as to how some of the Legacy bosses work; Are characters like Malroth and Nimzo DLC only or can their maps be found end game? I realise that it's too early for me to be asking such a question, but this question's been bugging me eversince I got the game. - . -

I'm not going to buy it until it gets cheaper, because that's what I've done with most of them, besides VIII

How is $35 too expensive?  Especially compared to a PS2 game?

Excuse me, but $35.00 is not expensive. You're being way too cheap.

well, I don't like dragon quest that much. It's a very good game series for what it is and fantastic to some others, but it's not exactly my favorite. And I don't like handhelds.

Also, I'm playing Sakura Wars (Wii), FFXIII, and Wipeout HD still, and I'm going to buy starcraft 2 at launch, because I really loved the first one. And so I don't need anymore games unless they come down in price, so I might as well wait.

And yes ironically, my favorite this gen is on the DS which I waited to drop to 20 bucks.

It's a handheld. A ps2 game is not a hand held. I don't like gaming on hand helds. thus I do not buy until they are cheap and that includes my favorite handheld games like TWEWY, Crisis Core, Pokemon. The only one I bought at full price this gen was WIpeout Pure. I do this to slightly discourage developers from developing on handhelds even though it probably has no effect.

Finally got it yesterday, and I tried it out a bit today. The enhanced menu interface looks pretty nice (I like how the weapons and armour don't clutter the inventory), and the design looks pretty nifty so far.

I'm still very early in the game though, just got back to the Yygdrassil tree again.

Frankly, you're taking the same view as pirates.  That just because a game is on a 'handheld', or 'not a console game', its acceptable to consider it a lesser game and not have to buy it (or in your case, wait till it hits the bargain bin).  Even if it had just as much time put into its development as a console title.  Which Dragon Quest IX clearly did.

I really wonder when this prejudice towards handheld games started.  Back in the Game Boy days, handheld gaming was considered something treasured and unique.  And even today, some games that are hold-overs from that time period like Pokemon, Golden Sun or Zelda still get hyped and obsessed over.  But ever since the invention of FMVs and the gaming media, it seems like the bulk of handheld games are automatically 'inferior' to console games by default.  And why?  Simply because of graphics?  It certainly can't because of things like gameplay and content, as handheld games have had some of the best games of this gen (and every gen).

And I'd just like to point out, the main Pokemon titles have always been handheld games.

Why would I want to play a game on a 3 inch screen with relatively bad graphics and bad sound, when I could play it on a big screen with better graphics?

I have the easy answer, because i ride the train or like to play it in/around class., like people in Japan.

But I don't do/like either of those. Except when I lived in Japan for 1.5 months and had 45 minute train rides. What did I do, play DS like the 40 year olds :P!

And I've always wanted a main pokemon console game.

Just in case you were listening my favorite game this gen is TWEWY, which is a handheld. So it's not like I don't play the games on it, I just wait for it to get cheaper. But hand helds are inferior if they don't have better gameplay.  Because they have inferior everything else because when I play hand held I play it on my couch, same as ps3/wii.

I'm glad people love it, because dragon quest is very good. I however, find less value in handhelds because they're also less relaxing to me, (because I have to stare at a small screen with earphones), and since they have (generally less value to me) I wait for them to go cheaper. When I don't even play all the great games on ps3/xbox360/wii, because I don't have time this makes sense for me. Not for everyone but for me.
