Forums - Gaming Discussion - Visceral Games, will they be one of the next on EAs chopping block?

Many people know Visceral Games for Dead Space, Dante's Inferno, and The Godfather, but with their lackluster sales compared to their budgets, how much longer are they gonna stay on without at least a huge shake up at the company, EA has been closing down studios as of late that haven't been turning a profit for them, most notable of all of them being Pandemic, having a near 2 million seller in Mercs 2 and half a million with the Sabotuer (after the studio was closed)

Their track record as of right now is a 2 million seller in Dead Space almost a quarter million for Dead Space Extraction, barely a million seller in Dante's Inferno, and the same for Godfather II.  If EA is to be believed they said the budget for the average HD is usually covered if the game sells 1.1 million without a price drop, and the average Wii game is a quarter of that, they obviously made a profit for EA with Dead Space, the game didn't even need to be heavily advertised, but they have come out and said they weren't happy with DSE sales, not a word has really been said for Dantes Inferno but between the checks being sent to reviewers, fake protests, fake Wii game ads on you tube, and a big Super Bowl Ad spot, they spent a lot of marketing DI and with only a million sales spanning both consoles it's likely they haven't broken even, nothing has been really said from what I can tell about Godfather II either.

Basically I don't know either way if Visceral Games is next up on the chopping block, but giving evidence to be worried, hopefully with their upcoming PSN/XBLA port of DSE and Dead Space 2 they can break even with their Wii project and prove they're a viable developer for EA.

That team already lost some key people from what Ive heard...to activision.

I honestly don't think I am in love with any of the games they've made so if they go...I won't lose much sleep.

I honestly agree with you, but they've made more of a name for themselves this gen and people seem to be interested in things they do, but with their record right now, I'm wondering how much longer EA with keep them around if they don't start making them the big bucks, they seem to have their hopes riding on Dead Space 2 right now.

Meh...

Dead Space was alright. They've got some fantastic artists, but they're kinda average outside of that. I won't be too sad if they go down.

I'd like to see that artists do something more though. Maybe join Capcom? That could be good for the Resident Evil series, as it needs a little help in the art department if you ask me.

Considering this isn't a team that EA bought, but internally developped with their own talent, I don't think it makes sense to let them go..but the name "Visceral Games" may need to go.

They can shuffle people around...move them on other projects/teams

Their name and logo is cool...that's about it to me.

Dante's Inferno's expectations were 800k in Americas for the PS3/360 combined after 1 year. However, that Super Bowl commercial probably threw a sizable monkey wrench into the financial side of things I'd imagine. They got 700k so far though.

And what Wii project?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I wouldn't call it very likely, but it is becoming increasingly possible.

As stated in the OP, to some extent their hopes are riding on DS 2, I really enjoyed the original and feltitis what Resident Evil 5 should have been.

EA lost a lot of money on Dante's Inferno and also on Godfather 2 obviously.

But they can recoup that money with Dead Space 2. The hype is big for Dead Space 2 and it will certainly sell 3 million copies and make a nice profit.

I believe Visceral are secure despite the flop of Dante's Inferno. Plus it's a studio with potential to make 5 million sellers in the future.

Their Wii project was Dead Space Extraction, which hasn't even hit a quarter million yet, now they're porting it to XBLA and PSN.  Hopefully they fix a few of the games issues, and it's likely to be something for Move/Natal.  It might make the project as a whole profitable.

Visceral games has made some above average games between Dead Space and Dantes Inferno, so they are probably going to earn their stay on critical reception grounds alone which shows they have potential to make a big seller even if they haven't managed to hit the home run quite yet.

Tease.
