Forums - Microsoft Discussion - New 360 Owner, Need advise.

Hello all. I have ordered a X-Box 360. It's in the mail and i have a few questions.

#1. I know the 360 is covered from RRoD and E74 error for 3 years. How does this work excatly? Do I have to go online and regester the serial # or anything like that?

#2. I am going to be getting all multiplatform games on the 360 for a couple reasons. First anything with multiplayer would be better on the 360 because of Live. Second I like gamerscore more than trophies. And 3rd I have been told that all the games on both systems are better on the 360. Now please no fanboy bullshit here. Is this true? I know for a fact Red Dead Redemption looks better on the 360. And I have been told thats the case for all games. Are there any exceptions? Again please leave your fanboy crap at the door, i want facts.

Thanks all and I hope to see some of you online.

I don't know about the serials....as for multiplatform games, there's not a common trend, some of them works better on 360 some other on ps3. examples: FinalFantasyX and Dead Space worked better on ps3, Bayonetta and Resident Evil 5 worked better on 360

RroD was very common with the first release of the console, since the 360 got the HDMI treatment, also the processor was changed into a 65nm one, fail, is much less common with newer consoles.

1. It goes by the date on the back of your Xbox360. Or if you save the receipt, it goes by the date on the receipt. They will ask you to send them a fax of the receipt if the console is out of warranty on the back but still under warranty from the purchase date. Seeing that you are in USA, if your console breaks cause of those reasons, the repair process is pretty simple for you. You will call them, or fill out a claim on their website. They will give you a prepaid shipping labell to print out and off the console goes. In less than 2 weeks you have another xbox360. But the odds of your console breaking are rather low as long as you have one of the newer modes (April 2009 )

2. The only multiplatform game that I can think of and is noticably superior on the PS3 is FFXIII. There are a few games which are noticably superior on the 360 (Orange Box, Bayonetta come to mind)  as well but most of them are pretty much the same despite what fanboys claim. Like you wouldn't notice the lower resolution difference in Red Dead  on PS3 unless you have a 60 inch TV screen...and a magnifying glass.

Thank you all for the info. But I have to tell you you're wrong about the bolded part. My roomate has RDR on 360 and I have/had mine on PS3. The graphics were noticeable on out 32in TVs. It wasent like a huge deal but I could tell and once I saw the 360 one I was done lol. After seeing the diffrence my ps3 version just looked all the worse, eventhough a lot of that was in my head.

With online ordering I'm guessing my receipt will come with the system. I hope that kind of receipt will be good for them incase of the 360 breaking down. If I lose the reciept i wounder if im screwed. And yes your right my 360 will have the Jasper Chip not the Falcon. Thank god lol.

About the games. I will be getting the following games for 360. Unless anyone tells me there better on the ps3. Skate 3, Assassins Cred 2 and Saints Row 2.

Thanks again for the info.

I honestly don't see much difference between the two. My downstairs neighbour brings his PS3 every once in a while and we play multiplat games like SF4, Resident Evil 5 and Bioshock 2 on my 67 inch 1080p Samsung. I don't see any noticable difference. Even games where the difference is noticable (RE5) isn't a deal breaker.

I mean try running Metro 2033 on a high end PC and then on the 360...its beyond fugly on the 360. But I have yet to see a mutliplay game which is fugly on one console compared to the other...assuming both are connected with HDMI.

Sadly I didn't play any of those games so I can't comment. They should be fairly equal though...

I know you said your gettin multy platform games, but if you owna 360 the must play games are mass effect 1 and 2, trust me you will not be disapointed.

EVEN YOU CAN OUTRUN THE FASTEST MAN, IF HE DOES NOT START THE RACE.

CANT WEAR Mckinleys JEANS CAUSE MY WARDS DONT FIT.

I too own a 360 and ps3...and I also play multiplatform/live games on my 360 and strictly first party for my ps3

and I also think Gamerscore is much better than trophies....Congratz on getting a 360

About 70% of all multiplat games perform better on the 360, the rest is either a tie or run better on the PS3.

Although the difference is usually not that noticeable.

For comparisons go to LensofTruth.com

Assassin's Creed 2 runs a bit better on 360, Skate 3 is a tie

EDIT: Before I forget to mention it, the older the games the better they run on the 360 compared to the PS3.

Congrats on your purchase!

I have no idea on the registration, but as far as multipalts go, the vast majority is slightly (or noticeably) better on the 360. The real reasons for choosing a multiplat on either, for me, are preferences for controls (for example, the PS3 offers better controls for fighters, and the 360 wins in shooters), achievements, and NOTICEABLY superior multiplats. For example, if you were to get SFIV, you should get it on the PS3. While the 360 version looks slightly better, the PS3 has the better controls for a 2D fighter... so don't blindly get all of them on one console.

Hello congratz on your win360

anyways as for 1

dont worry about it, the manufacture date on the back is what they go by,  if you bought it new, you will have a jasper mother board in your xbox 360, which is extremely resilient to the RROD.

as for 2, nearly every game on 360 is better on 360 than PS3. The reason is most companies make the game for 360 then port to the PS3 and PC ( or PC then port to 360 then ps3)

It's much harder to make a game for PS3 then port to 360 so its rare to have PS3 superior than 360
