Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto: MS and Sony motion devices are “threatening”

I enjoy Nintendo's underhanded insults. Stealth trolling at its finest on their part ;)

He forgot one important thing both devices do improve on the original wiimote, surely this is more of an evolution than just a simple copying process, anyway in my opinion neither natal or ps move have copied the wiimote, ps move has evidence from 2004 to back this up, nintendo don't like it because they know that basically both natal and ps move do have the potential to steal some of their user base.

The germane point is not whether or not the technology is improvement. The WM improves on the original Wii Remote. The others appear to do so as well -- but we won't know how much until we see the final product and by the time they are released, the Wii will almost be four years old.

As far as the concept and technology of motion controls, this is nothing new. There was controllers for the Atari 2600 that used them. Nintendo itself released games for the GBC (Kirby) and GBA (Warioware) built around motion controls while the premise of Microsoft's Natal is what Sony experimented with in the PS2's EyeToy.  But regardless of who had what technology, Nintendo brought the concept to market.

That was a bold step for a company that is generally thought to be conservative (and yet is often so innovative).  And it is the subsequent appropriation of this concept that "threatens" Nintendo. From a business perspective, it will lose its uniqueness.  But from a business model, it will still be successful because it will have a 70M install head start on the others, vis-a-vis motion control.

Nintendo is making efforts to bring Hardcore to Wii way way way too late in the gen. and its failing.

fixed

Hehe Thx megaman. and to add a little more.

Like Sony and Xbox 360 are bringing casual way way way to late in the gen. and will do as well as Wii is doing with its hardcore line.

So who is in better situation in all this?(I say PS3)  if Wii feels threatened thats going to push Nintendo to go HD and up the performence.Could this indicate they will move to close the Gap with a new consule (other then 3DS). (this is if this artical has any reality to it) Nintendo needs a new Consule that isent labled casual if it wants to keep up.

Thoughts?

Seeing as Microsoft and Sony are copying Nintendo, I don't think Nintendo will just go "HD." That is a little rediculous.

Nintendo is threatened because now Sony and Microsoft are trying to stop Nintendo's disruption, and Nintenjdo isn't about to sit back and let them do it. Everything has been building to this point and it could determine the fate of these three companies (in video games of course).

Well E3 coming right up will give us a few ansers. Can't wait. i need to go stock up on the popcorn. I sure would love to see Nintendo Pwn sony and MS. LOL give them a bit of sckooling on how its done. Give them no choice but to become inovative in this buisness instead of just being little followers. Panzy's jk.

Bottom line though. I dont think thats what will see.  Nintendo will play the 3DS Card, fortify its handheld supemicy and watch and see how the consumer reacts to Move and "natal".  Eyes will definitly be looking at  how  succesful Onlive is, can't rull them out.

http://www.onlive.com/service.html    That one is coming out the 17th of june 2 days after E3 ? How convinently dated lol

I think Nintendo has mention thats definitly what the future of consule's will be. Till then they will ride out there  huge Casual userbase and Who knows, start on some fresh ideas of what makes Nintendo stand appart from the rest of the pack.as this is happening

PS3 will close and tie Xbox 360 and may move forward, and then peak.

If Onlive works and the tecknologie is were it needs to be at. Then Nintendo will be going that route. So Keep N eye out for huge internet networking stock sells to see who is buying what.  I think that will be the biggest indication of when a company will be ready to pump out a new home consule, and if you think the Wii was small LoL this next one's going to be tiny.

Lol whatever im just having fun

Thoughts?

Surely Natal is more of a copy of the PS2's EyeToy if anything. In fact the EyeToy was doing motiony, waggly, flaily party games a good couple of years before the Wii itself was even announced. I think this whole "who copied who" thing is almost as tiresome and annoying as the motion control devices themselves.

I remember reading these quotes elsewhere and them not having anything to do with what the rticle claims.

I don't think Microsoft or Sony will pose a big threat. The probably about going this route is you need the software to back it up. Sony and Microsoft rely on third party companies (and those "1st party ones they bought,") to make their games. I don't see a lot of good software coming out that will compete or out do offers already on the Wii.

Mabe at first, but. If 3rd party start building games for PS3 in mind and port to the Wii then the Wii player base will start feeling like second class.

If you look at sell chart 3rd party stuff has never really sold much on the Wii anyways, so its clear they will make games for the move first as Sony has much more success for them even though they only have a fraction of the consule on the market.

No this is not going to be good for the Wii. Nintendo making good games for itself will be the sole reason to have a wii. But i gess that already was the fact.

This will be the start of the end for the Wii. I dont even think lowering the cost of the consule will help them now. Thank god for there 1st party games and applications.

The PS3 being to expencive  will keep the wii alive until they can drop the PS3 down to arround 200$

So its time for Nintendo to go back to work and make the next big gaming inovation. I suggest they dont rush anything till they have something better then a puls reading device for the WiiMote.

It's all about following the leader microsoft and sony have to go the motion route to catch up with nintendo.

If Shigeru Miyamoto finds it "threatening" then he's got to go back to work on another thing to put nintendo ahead of microsoft and sony. It's just business at the end of the day.
