Miyamoto: MS and Sony motion devices are “threatening”

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto’s told Edge that Microsoft and Sony’s rush to motion with Natal and Move is “threatening” behaviour.

“Whenever something we have created and presented is followed by copies, we always feel it is threatening,” said the dev legend.

“More than that, we’re concerned that others are trying to do something similar for the sake of it. It’s not encouraging to Nintendo.”

The exec was answering a question on whether or not she saw parallels between the uptake of motion controllers and the “borrowing” of analog sticks in the PlayStation generation.

Both Natal and Move will release towards the end of this year, and both will feature heavily at E3 later this month.

Nintendo will show its latest hardware, 3DS, at the LA event.

Interesting to know that Miyamoto considers both new motion devices to be mere copy's of the Wii remote.

I dont blame him, copies can really destroy the image of the original product especailly if the uninfromed doesnt realize the there playing the copy not the original or they could overtake the original

I think its more of the copying of the idea then the actual devices

Yes it is good point there Xxain.

Oh well... come E3, Microsoft and Sony will be showing motion control, a device that has already been seen, and Nintendo will be showcasing devices that will (hopefully) be innovative.

He forgot one important thing both devices do improve on the original wiimote, surely this is more of an evolution than just a simple copying process, anyway in my opinion neither natal or ps move have copied the wiimote, ps move has evidence from 2004 to back this up, nintendo don't like it because they know that basically both natal and ps move do have the potential to steal some of their user base.

it's the future of handheld

Maybe its a mistranslation. I don't think hes terming it in the sense that its a gun to his head or anything like that. Perhaps the closer translation is 'unsettling' or something akin to having your ideals trampled upon.  In that sense to me it does make sense. If I was in that position too I would feel the same way.

Tease.

OMG.... I always thought Miyamoto was a guy.... stupid me...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Well, in the case of Sony, they even copied the advertising campaigns and games! As aforementioned, the uninformed may prefer the copy product due to ignorance (or bigger marketing muscle from Sony, she's very good at that stuff)
