The Playstation 3 outsold the Wii in Japan, two weeks in a row. Are these early signs that the Playstation 3 will defeat the Wii? How come the Wii is selling less now, in Japan? How did the Playstation 3 manage to defeat the Wii, for two weeks straight? I congratulate the Playstation 3, but one must ask, "How?"

True, the Wii did outsell the Playstation 3 this week, but they are pretty much at par now, on a week-to-week basis. The Playstation 3 seems to be catching up to the competition. It owns over 18% of the total market share. I remember, not too long ago, when it owned just under 17%, and it stayed there for a very long time. Now, there are almost 6.5 million Playstation 3 consoles sold, when just a little while ago, there was around 5 million. The Playstation 3 is really booming!

Yeah the PS3 market share is increasing, but the Wii's market share is increasing much faster.

No, these are signs that there was a $100 price drop. As with all surges, they will go back down whereas the Wii got the sales with almost no promotion other than being available.
