Guys, I'm working with the census this year. I don't think they are "hiding" them. Just probably negligence. The whole system is horrible(In the US)

No. They don't get the rights of full citizens. They just get jobs.

I'm sure with 100 million Chinese ppl there, proud ppl like you would be sent to do those dirty works with no health care instead.

I'm shocked to see comments like this on this website.

I don't see how you're experience in the US Census relates to the Chinese Census.

I'm just saying that from my experience the census is horribly run. Can't see how it running any better in a more populated country.

No way, if 100 millions chinese immigrant come to Canada, we'll be the ones doing the dirty work next generation. It only takes them 1 generation to move up the rank, look at all the best students in school, all asians.

True, but that's ignoring the social issue with over population in that country as I described a few posts back. Its a known fact Chinese hide children from the government so they can have more than one. Only odd thing is that they actually turn up at 10 vs as adults.

I guess I was a bit negligent in my original post and it's led to some debate. I apologize.

Yes, some of you hit it spot on, it appears that parents did hide their babies. Not only to try again for boys but also in the case of repeat pregnancies to avoid being forced by the govenment to have an abortion.

Explain why. My understanding of running a business is painfully limited, but, if we had a certain number of people producing goods without costing us money for health care, decent wages, etc. Would we not be better off? I could work as a manager at a factory instead of being the bum who presses the buttons. The Chinese would be paid a fraction of what I would be paid. And no costs for health care, if they get sick, they either die or get healthy again to work. If they donèt die, but stay sick, then after a certain amount of time we just force them to work until they die off.

Also why only 3 million?  That assumes not one child under the age of 10 has died.

What would they gain by hiding 3 million births?  Even if they did gain something, why the hell wouldn't they be smart enough to hide it in 2000? 

Couldn't a lot of the "hidden number" of been hidden by the people for that matter?  Don't they have a 1-child per family law?

Hiding, because in China you cannot have more than one child. So, often, if you're having a girl you'll either have an abortion or you'll hide the child so you can have a 2nd to have a boy.

Its a cultural thing where boys are valued as they would take care of the parents later in life, i.e. its their pension plans. Whereas girls go to live with new family and take care of husband's parents.

Sad part is there are probably more than 3million hidden/sold to trade etc as the nation is huge and obviously there are plenty of kids who die before 10, unfortunately.

The article makes it sound as if the government is actually hiding it though.  That's the thing.

There is no reason for them to.
