Forums - Sales Discussion - Did Bayonetta sell badly?

If you compare Bayonetta's numbers with MadWorld, you will see that there no difference (For Exemple, in America: MadWorld [0.31] Bayonetta PS3 [0.21] Bayonetta 360 [0.30]). Because we have 3 consoles, not 2HD and Wii. Each with a type of investment because they are different platforms. The difference come when you see to others territories like Asia and Europe, but there others type of investment in here too for each tittle in each platform.

Sega, one day, has said that the number of MadWorld are very good. A sequel have been mentioned. With time they changed their opinion...

They combine the figures because the cost of porting to the PS3 was REALLY LOW, therefore most of that is profit

Porting costs are usually low when games are designed to be multiplatform (as Platinum is doing with Vanquish)... Bayonetta wasn't, it was conceived as a 360 exclusive and Sega decided to handle the PS3 port themselves inhouse when they stuck the publishing deal.  I doubt it was a particularly cheap port due to the way it handled, even if the quality was somewhat lacking.

Still, combining the figures makes some sense, but if we're going to compare budgets, then Bayonetta was likely several times more expensive than a game like MadWorld.  Both for development and promotion.

Honestly it sold very well, much more than it deserved. But the way the media was hyping the game up as the second coming of christ people were expecting it to sell more than all Devil may cry games combined.

The game is custom made for the PS3 audience and they failed to deliver otherwise I believe that the sales would have been at least 200k higher on the PS3 side

I think the game is much better than Dante's Inferno or GoWIII, even the PS3 version, due to originality and gameplay, but that's just me and critics.

I only bring up those comparisons because I think those are good games that released around the same time in the same genre.

The game was great, imo, and deserved all the praise it got. It sold well, but not as well as it should have.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Sega deserved to have it sell poorly. Poor PS3 port, poor sales... although the sales weren't really bad unless they had huge expectations (not sure, it doesn't look like a high budget game, does it?).

I was really looking forward buying Bayonetta, but unless I get a X360 someday, I won't, because I refuse to pay for the PS3 version as it is. I am quite mad at Sega for this...

where are the critics saying bayonetta is better GOWIII?

Don't think any critic has said Bayonetta was better than GOW 3, well except xbox douchebag sites like VGArabia. The PS3 version of Bayonetta isn't better than Dante's Inferno, at least that game is playable.

Yes it sell badly. If you count MadWorld as a Flop, Bayonetta is a megaflop!

They patched the PS3 version to run as well as the 360 version, I hear.

On-topic, I think Bayonetta has done very well for itself. I'm sure SEGA is pleased.

But guys the "Bayonetta vs. Other Action Games" argument should go in its own thread.

Thats not really true,  sure it runs a little smoother than before, and doesnt have the horrible loading.  But the amount of screen tearing and bad textures are horrible compared to the 360 version.  I should have bought that version instead,  damn my love for my trophies
