As the OP states, a few months back in an Iwata asks post the Zelda team stated Monster Hunter Tri is pushing them to make better graphics on Zelda Wii.

Now that Monster Hunter Tri is out and everyone can see the game in motion what do you think about this statement that MH3 is pushing Zelda Wii? 

On a purely technical level MH3 is quite poor compared to something like Twilight Princess and almost absurd when you think that it's pushing Zelda Wii, but when you think about it Nintendo has always been about the art and design, no matter the console their games try to look good and its not always with how much juice you can get out of the system and from an artistic standpoint MH3 has some of the best designed enviornments in any game this gen, it really gives the feeling of being in nature, some of the scenery looks amazing, but with the circle shadows and shadows that don't even react to light (even OoT had shadows that would react to light AKA Navi) you know MH3 isn't going to be pushing technical levels.

I thought Monster Hunter 3 looked good indeed, but there were other games much better looking IMO. I actually think myself that Twilight Princess is superior to Monster Hunter 3 in the graphical category.

MH3's graphics aren't good enough for people to consider it an accomplishment if they match it's graphics. they are good though

From screens I have seen The Last Story has the best graphics in a Wii game, so I think Zelda Wii should be targetting it!

Also, I think Zelda Wii probably would have looked exactly the same if MH3 was not made. Either way they are going to try and make it the best it can be. I don't think MH3 would affect it that much.

I thought that The Last Story's graphics were similar in some way to Zelda:TP's graphics, only *better* (they're beautiful actaully :D)

so @ your statement, AGREED, Zelda Wii should go and beat The Last Story's Graphics!!

I'm talking about the HQ new shonen jump scan, one of the pics in it has the main characters in a scene, the detail I see there is very very good & they still have time to polish graphics

Maybe it won't be the "technical best", but it does look like it'll have the best art style & so on which will make it more nice to look at.

EDIT:

But remember we just don't know what direction Zelda Wii is going in, cell shades, normal, some new style...who knows, we'll know in 2.33434 weeks though.
