Earlier in the week, we reported a slight status update on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, with Square Enix saying the game was moving along nicely and they'll share more information when the time is right on the game, but also in the Korean interview, Square Enix talks about the fabled Final Fantasy VII Remake and remaking it in a similar style to that of Final Fantasy XIII.
While talking with Korean site, Gameshot, Kitase responded when asked about a Final Fantasy VII Remake with: "To get the quality in place for Final Fantasy XIII it took 3 - 4 years. To get Final Fantasy VII to the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would take 10 times that and be difficult to make. With so many requests the idea is always kept in our mind." (Translated via Final Fantasy Re-union.)
Previously, Square Enix has stated it would take a number of years to properly convey the scale of Final Fantasy VII on HD-systems because of the massive world and town locations. With them now saying it would take 10x as long as Final Fantasy XIII took it quite a surprise. Each interview gives off the impression a remake has a very slim chance of happening anytime soon.
If the game will take another 30-40yrs, it sounds like the chance of remake are very slim, however, that is only if they took the same development path as Final Fantasy XIII. Could a handheld version be possible?
