The Crusades started when pilgrims going to the Holy Land were being robbed by bandits along the way, and it escalated from there, with the promise of the absolution of sins by fighting in the Crusades drew in individuals to go fight.

Islam has the concept of "jihad" which is a form of strife struck against evil.  It has a base meaning of internal struggle against evil in a person.  It also has a political meaning of attacking enemies who attempt to enslave people in your area.  Certain militant individuals have used the concept to declare this current clash of cultures going on and what happened with 9/11.

Christians have debated the concept of "just war" and when it is appropriate to use force to root out an evil.  Rules on how to conduct war have been discussed to.

If you look at the Old Testament texts, you see a lot of war there.  The nation of Israel fought a bunch of wars, went into captivity and so on.

We get to the 20th century, into the 21st century, and the ideology of neo-conservatism is always longing for this war or that, to spread westernization and secularism in places seen as repressed and havens for terrorists.

Do you consider neoconservatism a religion?  It is the Ideology that got America into Iraq.  And how about post-WWII when the USSR went into eastern Europe and repressed the people and threw them  under the Iron Curtain.  How about the Chinese and the Tiamen Square massacre?  Is Communism a religion?

I like to blame religion on war.
