didn't sega cancel the Aliens RPG that was supposed to be made by Obsidian?

This could be their way of paying them back...by releasing a buggy game. :)

I'll see how buggy this is next week first hand.

Really?  That's how you view it?  Not that Sega saw how this game was turning out so it cancelled the other??

the thing is, these guys did some awesome games in the past, and are releasing Fallout:New Vegas later this year. They rarely do bad games...

Combined with the fact that the Aliens RPG was finished when sega decided to cancel it, and you got yourself a grudge.

Ok, but what's the difference with Alpha Protocol (and, in effect, the Aliens RPG) on this list of Obsidian games:

Once you see that, you'll understand what has always been my concern about this game, because I soooooooooooooooo wanted it to be as great as the potential seemed.  Mass Effect meets Splinter Cell was a dream to me ...

yeah, that will show Sega.  Obsidian doesn't need to worry about getting money from all the work they put into the game or have to worry about how a bad game could affect their fanbase and future products.  Just as long as they get revenge on sega...

Hmm...other than having both games published by sega, I don't see any difference.

Being a new IP? :)

I don't know...

Two weeks ago, I've read a great preview of the game in Canard PC, a very good french magazine. The writer said he expected some terrible reviews due to the low production value of the game, but the choices and writing of the game are described as top notch.

I'll read other reviews and wait a bit for some patches, but in the end, I'll probably get the game anyway. The Obsidian designers are the guys who made legendary games such as Baldur's Gate 2 in the past, they are obviously talented.

Yeah, y'see I've noticed something, well, one of two things:

Any game published by SEGA since they left the console race, hasn't sold too well, I mean sure it's debatable, but honestly, if you look at other games in the genre and compare sales, you'll see...

Obsidian seems to have made great games in the past, but this is because they've been sequels of past games, so they've got everything to go by, I mean, their games use either the same or a very similar engine for the sequels they've made, so there hasn't been any significant changes (Although I'll admit I preferred Neverwinter Nights 2 to the original, they were both great, but the second was just mindblowing...)

It seems when they don't have anything to go off, their "creative minds" are not so creative afterall, and they struggle to find a basis for their game.

However, that said, this is a game I've been looking at for a while, and I'll still end up buying it, although I'm gonna' wait till it's cheaper or on offer or something, since I've got other games to prioritise over it.

Damn...I guess I'll wait for a few more reviews

wow! i was hopping for good but a 2 out of 10? that just kills any chance of me buying it unless G4, game spy, or game informer gives it a better reveiw.

I had a feeling this wasn't going to be that great, though I agree this review seems a bit harsh. Still, it's crazy that Obsidian is putting out something so bad. I didn't know they had it in them. Of course, most of their talent is probably working on F:NV, so that could easily have been a factor.

Thence we came forth
To rebehold the stars...

I only care about what real gamers have to say about the game. i.e. the people on these boards.
