Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Ex-Microsoft Studio Boss: 'Natal Will Fail'

Prediction- MOVE will be loved by "hardcore" gamers, but the casuals will fail to like it/ buy it.

Natal, if priced more than $80 will flop hard as hell, and after a month on the market, MS will cut the price down to $50.

Those are my thoughts.

I wonder if he feels similarly about Move.

I think he is wrong because most games will only slightly use these perepherals and they will work with or without them

lol

so they will port to ps3 for ONLY those that have bought MOVE but not for ONLY those that have bought Natal?  why?  whats the difference?

They will for some but not all. Please read my first post.

He's right in that the 360's core franchises (Halo, Gears, COD) probably will not use Natal, so a lot of the current 360 owners may not buy it. The casuals they are after will probably go with a Wii as it is already very popular and will be cheaper, at least initially. I think Move will suffer from the same problem, although Move may be useful in some of the PS3's more popular franchises (GT5, even possibly COD).

lol, yes flood the Move market with wii ports. Woot!

Seriously, I think MS made sure that Wii games can't be ported to Natal easily on purpose. I mean, other than Nintendo titles, which will not be on natal anyways, how many other wii games have been a huge commercial success? You could probably count them on 1 hand...

If you look at this guys development history, I think MS will be overjoyed if they can keep this guy off Natal so they don't clutter the market with mediocre titles.

Well that's my point and also the guys' point.

Again, what developers will spend money on Natal only games? ( except for shovelware ) No one, unless the install base is huge.

why would studios create games for MOVE only?

They won't, they will port Wii games to Move

"If it doesn't work on Wii, don't try it on Move"

Quite sure it fell into deaf ears.

That makes no sense. the only reason why shovelware exists is because userbase gets really large and extra dollars can be made on those quick and drity cash in games. There is no logic for anyone to release shovelware on Natal until it sells 20 million...

Since Natal will have a limited userbase for a while, the games coming out really need to be good.

Well, he actually has a point. The strength of the Move is that it works pretty much like the Wiimote. So when they develop something for the Wii, they can port it easily to the PS3.

Why would they spend more money porting it with some difficulties to Natal or create a game only for Natal? I could work but Natal would need a big install base.

His argument is the one made about accessories sold for a console, rather than bundled.  In this case, such accessories historically don't do well.  In regards to Move, it is similar.  It is a new accessory that would need to have a sufficiently large base of software to count.

As far as saying, "Well developers now can develop for the PS3 along with the Wii"... well, exactly what third-party software does gangbusters for the Wii?  Remember how people say the Wii has weak third-party support?  Don't expect Nintendo to develop for Move.
