Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3 Reasons Why Super Mario Galaxy 2 Doesn't Deserve 10s

Does really a thread like this is still relevant? It's only a purpose to make people (Wagram) come here to say again the game doesn't deserve any 10 at all.

Well, 10 exists. It's a number. If it was a number for perfection, no games would have earned it. Because perfection is inexistant in this world. Mario Galaxy 2 is a great game, it deserves the great review. I don't think the 10 means it's perfect in every way. But it's still a score that shows you that this game distance to other one, that this adventure is as good as the first and improved in a certain way. Sure, it doesn't have the same impact, but that would make the relevance of sequels invalid. But we need sequels to build upon the precedent experiment and gave again the player something extraordinary.

The bank of Star Bits is IMO a great clever addition, and with the interest too. The postman Toad is more useful than it was in Galaxy 1. I love when the Starship Mario gathers more and more people on your way. I love the World Map, the level design is better than the first, visuals are more stunning than the first, the soundtrack is as awesome as the first, if not more, the story at the end is well-driven (I wasn't expecting it) and I love Lubba.

So, following what Wagram said, it deserves a 9.9 and Galaxy 1 a 9.8. Because Galaxy 2 is in every aspect superior than its predecessor, and the impact should not be a critera of evalutation because makes sequels irrelevant. The review system is flawed to give 10. 10 should not exist, it's an unworthy number!

I don't care if you make me out to be the bad guy. I just tell it how it is. I knew this was going to happen because you Nintendo fanboys are blind as hell and can't see the truth.

I will say and it and continue to say it: COPY AND PASTE. NOT A 10!

Good Game: Yes:

Perfect 9.1-10 game: NO.

1. The repeated content is made different by its new presentation; for example fighting Bugaboom with the cloud suit is mechanically different to fighting him with the bee suit in Galaxy. Nothing is simply rehashed.

Did you get similarly upset when Gears of War 2 also had brumaks in it, or Killzone 2 had you fighting the same baddies?

And really, complaining about story in a Mario game? Go play Mass Effect if you want a story, or better yet read a book or watch a movie.

2. Lives system motivates you to actually finish something in a set number of tries, instead of the n00B-friendly endless lives system most games use, which emphasises grinding over skill.

3. There was a hub; starship mario it just wasn't large and boring like Peach's Castle and Delfino Square, where you had to wander for ages to get to where you wanted to go. This way, there's less time wasted traversing a tedious overworld.

@Wagram: people would treat your opinions with more respect if you didn't pull the fanboy card so often, and take practically every opportunity to criticise Nintendo.

I see him on every mario galaxy 2 thread whining about the game
so if someone really hate a game like that
he wouldn't play much of it since he doesn't like it

so how would he know ?

Dude.. It's a great game, just deal with it!

It' also the FIRST Wii game to recieve multiple 10s. Does it really bother you that a SINGLE Wii game in 3 and a half years just might be 10 worthy?

I don't particularly believe MGS4, GTA4, and Halo 3 are perfect 10 games either, but you don't see me ranting about it..

7 songs on 56 are from previous Mario game. 75%, heh? Even Mario 64 had previous songs from the other Mario games.

9.1-10 game: NO

That's still your opinion. I don't know why you claim it so often, your opinion is heard, now you can leave in peace I think? I still think you're a bit too harsh , the game deserves at least 95%, not for you it seems.

Unfortunately for you, critics and players don't agree at all with you. There's few of yours claiming the game shouldn't be awarded 10, but I don't know... You can say 1UP, IGN, Meristation, Gamervision, GamerShark, Eurogamer, Edge are all blinds... But it doesn't work like this.

You don't care of being the bad guy. But calling us Nintendo blind fanboys will worth you a nice reported post

curl-6 and Metallicube are so right!

@Wagram

Annnnd there we go, clearly you have a great argument if it boils down to "You are all fanboys who can't see my personal brand of truth".

The fact of the matter is, games like SMG and R&C can share much of the same assests from prior incarnations and NOT have it be a hinderence. Why? Because NO ONE is playing them for the animations or for the textures or even for the music, they are playing them for the level design. SMG has, bar none, the greatest 3-D platforming level design to come out in a video game to date, along with the physics to allow you to blast through said levels. You can whine all you want about recycled this and repuropsed that, but you are simply yelling that you can't comprehend WHY people love these games.

Also, please refrain from throwing around the "fanboy" title, you know it will lead to bans...

Ok, yes we get it. I think we got it the first 3 times that you gave your opinion... so what the hell are you expecting? A candy? Do you want a lollilop? Just get the s**t out of here.

We get it, is not a 10 for you. For other people it is. If you think the game is just a copy and paste lazy ass game, good for you. But don't freaking argue that your opinion is the truth. Your opinion is just that, YOUR freaking opinion. You already said what your opinion was, that's more than enough. I don't think anyone cares about it.

BTW, every sequel has to have something from previous games, it's just a part of... guess what, being a sequel.

I love the hypocrasy too.. Many of these same people ranting about Galaxy 2 recieving 10s because of the "similar gameplay" probably jizzed themselves over GTA4, Halo 3 and ODST, Gears 2, MW2, Uncharted 2, and many others. What exactly did those games do so different from their predecessors?

Getting a 10 doesn't mean it's a PERFECT game. I'm sure Galaxy 2 has its flaws like any other game. But a 10 just means it's CLOSE to perfect, moreso than most games, and that the strengths FAR outweigh the weaknesses. NO game can be perfect!
