Guys, I really didn't (and still don't) want this to turn into a "I liked HR/hated HR" debate. We have had so many places dedicated to just that sort of thing. The purpose is to discuss what the game has meant to the industry (seeing as this is one of several devs who feel this way).

Now of course, if HEAVY RAIN has no interest to you, that's fine. But I'd like to keep the peace. Thanks.

Please explain to me what this game has to offer the industry.  That is what i would like to know.

guiduc want less Heavy Rain. That's not the right orientation of what gaming should become.

sorry, CGI-Quality

So what should gaming be about? And also have you even played it?

Of course I played it! That would be somewhat less relevant to speak about a randomly game you haven't played yet.

Heavy Rain is somewhat more of an interactive movie than a core-gameplay experience. In fact, the controls are background and their only purpose is to drive the story.

In fact, the game is built upon a story and driven by your decisions, which is in itself something unique and Quantic Dream gave a good try. But I just fear more and more editors would try the same thing and make the gaming industry lose his identity at the expense of another genre, which is interactive movies.

ok first and foremost where did you get flamed? :S I saw no one 'flaming' you, think you got the definition wrong there or something...

and the 'LOLWUT" was pretty obvious no? read what I highlighted and you can see what that LOLWUT is a good Q! :P You asked how him 'LIKING" the game explain why he LIKED it? The fact of the matter is, he LIKED IT! lol who cares what it was for....but one thing is for sure he must have thought it was a great game if not he won't make such a statement...a bit obvious right? tell you what, you hated the game right? ok cool, good to know, you let your opinion be heard...now take some chillpills and move along ye? why cause trouble in a thread about a game you obviously don't even like, just unproductive

Opinion noted, and no offense taken.

No harm done to you? I can mention that I adore Heavy Rain, and it's of course difficult when someone say there shouldn't be more of the game you prefer the most, but I don't feel it's really the good way to approach video game. Sure, the game has broken many rules to become really unique, but I don't really want a saturation of the genre.

But I don't mind if Quantic Dream release Heavy Rain 2. At least, they can build upon their recent success.

Nah, the genre won't become saturated, too risky. I see some taking the dive though, the formula has caught the interests of a few willing to try it out. But I wouldn't be concerned about saturation.

And no, no harm done to me. I respect and welcome your opinion. Besides, you didn't come in here with an obvious agenda.

Glad we share the same point of view. Taking the dive is of course welcome for me for any developers.

GO WADA & HEAVY RAIN

@phxprovost

This isn't about proving Heavy Rains worth to you or saying what its giving the game industry. Its just that we want to play more games like it!

Heavy Rain is offering a unique story driven experience that is simply unlike any other atleast right now, its better than the COD clones that release every month.

@guidic

So what if more devs made games like heavy rain? The sales of heavy rain prove there is a market for the game., but the market ISN'T large enough to have loads of games like Heavy Rain come in.

I'd like to see what S-E, Naughty dog & so on can do with a game in the Heavy Rain vein.....that doesn't mean everyone will suddenly make games like it.

I think they can all co-exist!

Again, it would contribute to the innovations of the industry, not necessarily cause a decline it's quality. "Interactive movie" is somewhat of a vague term anyway, as most video games could be considered that. This isn't a medium that is taking off in droves though (like platformers, FPS titles, or RPGs). It's an underground genre with a new breakout hit. Sure, it will spark some future titles to try it out, but it won't become a saturated medium.

You must be right. It would be so disastrous to see this genre saturated like FPS had been this generation.

Let's hope Quantic Dream keep defying the rules of video gaming.

My feelings shared. This won't become stale, though I do understand the fear. It seems when anything new becomes a breakout, it is cloned, copied, borrowed from...etc. In a case like this, however, it can still co-exist without disrupting the traditons of the industry.

As long as ACTIVISION don't get on the Heavy Rain bandwagon we are all safe

It would be really cool if a jrpg developer (that has good story writers) decided on making a jrpg like Heavy Rain. I would buy it on the first day.
