Forums - Sony Discussion - There and back again, a YLOD tale.

My right hand still throbs from the pain.  That screw driver, I curse thee!

MLB10: The Show...

As the last bit of loading time had finished, my PS3 turned off.  This is where the blinking started.  I assumed my problem was only from my game.  I turned the system off from behind, unplugged alll of the cords and then I repeated those same steps in reverse.  My PS3 came on without a hitch, though for some odd reason, Will Smith had shown up at my crib...

I decided to try my luck again, loaded the game, then I loaded the sports game within the game, and as the bar came ever closer to perfection...the beautiful launch day 60GB PS3 died again.  When I tried once more to resart my fallen friend, I got the one thing I never wanted to see...a herpes outbreak, followed closely by the YLOD.

The worst part of my story, I have no job, thus I can not afford a repair.  My PS2 likes to have a bitch fit when trying to play anything other than movies, so there goes another 100 bucks!  My last resort!  Take that son of a PS4 apart!

It was a bit dirty on the inside and I noticed that the thermal paste on one of the parts was extremely dry.  I cleaned it from the cpu and gpu then replaced it with some good shit.  Somehow I got everything back together and when I turned on my beautiful PS3...it worked!

I was so happy that I went out and got a tasty burger, which is great news as well, as I can't usually get them becuase my girlfriend is a vegitarian, which pretty much makes me a vegitarian.  By the way, do you know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in France?

Quotes and jokes aside, I'm very afraid to play my baseball game right now.  I don't want the same thing to happen again, if what had happened was at the fault of my sports game.  In the mean time, I have a PS3 that works still, and I hope that you do too.

I have had a worse experience with my PS3's but, unfortunately I didn't luck out like you did. My first PS3 (an 80Gb BC 2007 model) Blueray drive broke not even 2 months after I got it. It was replaced for free but, still a hassle.

Then almost 2 years later I lend COD:WaW to one of my friends. His PS3 gets YLOD, after venting my anger at him, I open it up and fish the disc out and give it back to him. Oh and I get the case back with dog bite marks and scratches (never lending games again!)

Then probably not a month later I was in the middle of an awesome game of Warhawk when the game froze. So I walked up to restart the PS3 and to my horror the light beeps red and flickers yellow...YLOD. I also had to bust this PS3 open and fish the disc out. I sent it to Sony who replaced it with a new refurbished PS3...for only $150.

Works ok until January 2010. I inserted my copy of MW2 into my PS3 one day and it refused to read the disc. Wait for hours doing a system restore...no good. By this time I have learned to back up my PS3, so at least none of my files are lost. So I send it off to Sony once again and they send back the same PS3 with scratches all on the left side -.- but hey, it still works so no big deal.

I am currently on my forth PS3 and my 3-month warranty has expired. I feel like every PS3 I own is on life-support. I do not abuse my game consoles. All of my PS3's have been in room temperature climates, elevated away from the carpet, and have plenty of air circulation yet they still break.

Haha I like the Hobbit reference. But man that is quite a story.

i didn't catch that Will smith Reference >_>;

I'm making a reply for the few who thought my thread interesting enough to reply...

Today, my PS3 hit the YLOD again, I was depressed beyond belief.  I searched and searched for answers, then I found the most ratarded option to every dive into a PS3 owner's head.  He put his MoBo in the oven!

I had lost all hope, so i decided to do the same.  400F and 10 minutes later, I decied to place a different Thermal compound onto the cpu/gpu, and this time I would put a bit more than last.

I also had a super secret weapon, I would splice a wire from the fan to one from the PSU so that it would constantly blow at 100%...all the time!

My PS3 turned on!  It's been over 7 hours and it is working great, not getting hot at all.  I've played a few games, watched a few movies and it's still kicking.  It is though, loud as fuck!  I always laughed at those who thought the fan was loud at it's max speed, considering my PC has 12+fans.  But, my god this thing makes my comp look like Helen Keller at the library.

Cool story bro

Royale with Cheese :D

You almost are the most unlucky guy on this planet(consider PS3's good quality) except the guy that encountered 11th rrod360.

And poor guy,if what you are talking is true, then take my advise,go WII it's the safe console for your luck(rrod360 is the most shitty console of three).

Bro,if you got enough money,go 40nami PS3 or simply sold your PS3 and buy a WII,it's the safest console out there, without HD gaming experices though.
