That's the beauty of Nintendo. Finding a new way to make Mario's Next adventure epic. You think that space would be the final frontier. We shall see what Miyamoto has for it.

The Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario series are two seperate series, made by seperate groups. And sadly, seeing as how Intelligent Systems is stuck in a rut making nothing but tactical remakes and clones, and already having tried to 'change' the Paper Mario series with Super Paper Mario, we're probably not going to see another Paper Mario for a while.
As for the topic at hand, I've learned long ago not to try to second guess Nintendo. Everytime I do, they either release a remake or completely revamp a series to the point no one could ever guess what it could have been like.
I agree with Metallicube. I want Super Mario Rpg made by square with 3d graphics. Paper mario is good and all but I want a 3d maro rpg.
Maybe a good platforming mario focusing on the enemies of past and future. (I know Mario has some game with a time element.)
You guys are thinking about this the wrong way. It's what where will Mario go, it's where will the gameplay go. Setting has always been dictated by gameplay. It's Super Mario Galaxy because gravity is supposed to have an effect on gameplay, not viceversa. Super Mario Sunshine happened on Delfino Island because they wanted to make water a main component of gameplay. Whatever new idea is brought forth, that will determine the setting.
make a Mario FPS with discovery and mystery type of game along the lines of Luigi's mansion and metroid.
- Wasteland - The Mission.
