Forums - Gaming Discussion - Insomniac go multiplat - Choose EA

You can take both series with you Insomniac. Hopefully their new games are good. R1 was good but R2 was just a step backwards. And never enjoyed R&C. Was a Jak fan last gen so maybe that's to blame :D

RIP Insomniac.

They mention in the article that they've been working on a multiplatform title for a while. That was probably when they opened their new studio.

So they'll continue to make PS3 exclusives with the old team, although now with longer dev cycles (excellent news) while treading into the multiplatform market with their new team and a new IP.

If I've got that all worked out right, this is fantastic news.

They say they want exposure, but going multiplat assures that they will fade into obscurity. When you go multiplat you don't gain a fanbase, you lose the one you had. Whatever though, I just hope they're working on resistance 3 right now and not this new IP.

So they've extended their dev cycles to 24 months? This implies Resistance 3 won't be out until mid-2011. I hope they have enough time to polish it to a shine now. They could do so much with the IP, but Resistance 2 felt like it lacked a consistent direction and was rushed.

I have great respect for Ted Price and Insomniac Games. I've been their fans for a long time. And for them to expand their audience and gain more critical acclaim from more gamers is a great thing!

And what assures me is that the PS3 version won't be 'gimped' or poor quality. Also glad that they didn't choose Activision and instead chose EA.

And that fact that they have two major studios means that they can work on both the New IP and a rotation of Resistance and Ratchet and Clank.

So no new IP at E3 but Resistance 3 at E3!!! Bring it ON!!!

The video game industry will decline if all the consoles have the same games. Just look at how many users have multiple consoles on this site, imagine if everyone only restricted themselves to one. Less consoles sold = less money for the comapnies.

The companies don't even make money off the consoles, though (for the most part). They make money off the software.

It's actually better if consumers don't need to spend as much money on redundant hardware. It means more money for games.

With the HD consoles as similar as they are, I'd prefer everything to be multiplatform. The differences between the two are negligible. If people want multiple consoles to survive, the consoles themselves should offer something different (like Wii vs HD).

As for the news itself, it's good, in my opinion. Although I'm not really an Insomniac fan (from what I've played of R&C / Res), I'm sure there are some 360-only owners that will enjoy their next game.

Didnt they typically have 24 month cycles already? Resistance Fall 2006 and Fall 2008. And woultnd that imply a Fall 2010 release for R3?

Not sure about Ratchet, there's 3 Ratchets out in this gen already, right? But Ratchet feels a little easier to develop than Resistance, if u excuse me (since a couple of the Ratchets didnt feel like full-blown sequels).

Good to see So many Sony fans still willing to support them. I commend you guys. I for one can tell you guys that you'll love Bungie's next IP. And I'm sure I'll love Insomniacs. :)
