Forums - General Discussion - How do you feel about the way the oil spill is being handled?

I have more hatred for Bobby Jindal than most any other U.S. politician.. and think its a little too funny that the champion of oil deregulation and small government is now BEGGING for more government intervention... of course its not funny because this is doing horrible and irreversable damage to the seafood industry in places like Morgan City and Thibodaux.

Just to ask.. Have you ever been to a beach in Louisiana?

I would see your point if he was for irresponsible oil drilling.

Apparently there is breaking news - the 'Top Kill' maneuver finally stopped the well from leaking. Woo hoo!

Whew. It's about damn time something did the trick.

The Top kill procedure has never been tried before and experts warn that they cannot safely declare that it has been 100 % effective until 2 to 3 days after it is implemented.  Since they implemented the procedure only yesterday I think it's early to declare that the problem is solved, however it is a good sign that oil has stopped leaking for now.  We just have to see if it holds up for another day or so.

The Top Kill effort was put on hold as of midnight last night. What's BS is that they claimed everything was going fine until like 4 pm.

And it seems both the government and BP have been offered aid to help clean up the oil that is already out there, yet the goverment are ignoring the offers. From ABC News:

While the governor asks for more supplies, a number of countries said today that the U.S. government and BP had yet to take them up on offers of assistance, including booms and skimmers.

The State Department said in a briefing today that 17 countries had offered assistance, including Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

BP added another two countries to that list, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.

While BP has accepted some supplies, including booms and skimmers from Norway, most other countries said they were waiting for a response from the U.S. government. "We have the equipment," said Ferran Tarradellas, a spokesman for the European Union agency coordinating Europe's response, "but at this point in time, we have not received any requests."
