Forums - Gaming Discussion - To Wii owners: Why haven't you bought an HD console yet?

bought a ps3 during black friday. used it mostly for watching dvds cuz of hd upscaling. as for gaming, the games i got didnt have any replay value for me. a couple of wii games already got over 100 playing time for me so its worth the price. i think hd games are just overpriced only because its hd. but i dont regret getting the ps3. hopefully it can last long since i dont plan on gaming next gen. by that time all previous gen games gonna be very cheap so i can play them to my hearts content.

XBox 360: Failure rate has been so high from the beginning that I simply refuse to support such shoddy hardware
PS3: E3 2006 pretty much sank it for me at launch (599 US Dollars!, shamelessly mimicking Nintendo with hacked-on motion control), but most recently, because Sony has shown a willingness to retroactively remove functionality at their discretion

This doesn't mean I don't have any beef with Nintendo, though, as their DRM policy preventing the transfer of DLC to other consoles (from, say, a white Wii to a black Wii) is hardly laudable.

nintendo remove mp3 support, too i am pretty sure companies don't want to remove em, but sometimes feel forced to

Don't see the point. There are over 30 projects set to come on Wii/WiiWare just going by wishlist that I'd like to buy. Will take me three to five years to play everything already announced given my backlog stands at 4 unopened Wii games and a Monster Hunter 3 demo. There are 10 or so downloadable indie projects on PS3 and X360 that look fun, but only four-five retail games on each system that I really would purchase.

I don't really watch TV either so I have no intention of buying an HDTV unless my SDTV breaks (which is unlikely since its fairly new and I only use it for Wii essentially). All I watch regularly is The Simpsons and MLB games - mostly on www.wtso.net and through the MLB site. Beyond that, I have alot to do.

Between Wii & DS I have eight unopened games sitting in a box. Generally, I get through eight retail games a year plus a couple indie titles, so there is pretty much no chance of me running out games to play for at least a full year, ergo, no need for a new system. I only buy new systems when I run out of games to play on what I own.

I 'm not really interested in the games on those systems. I was interested in Bioshock and Mass Effect but when I saw the main characters firing guns. I lost interest in both titles.

you shouldn't be so quick to judge something based on a stereotype. Bioshock and Mass Effect 2 are both must have experiences, the same with many titles.

The same can be said about many genres or elements.

I don't not play Nintendo games just because of their style. They are still great games even though while I play them all I hear is the game yelling "look, this is imaginative... the enemies are turtles with wings, and you ride a dino that eats fruit and shoots eggs! Cah-rayyyzzzzzzzzeeeeeee!"

All Nintendo games are like that.

IMO

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

See for me, the very reason I play video games is to escape from reality. So the crazier the better. Nintendo offers me that experience better than anyone else. That is why the Mario series is my favorite series. It's that aura of venturing into madness and the unknown. This is the essence of games as they use to be, and IMO as they should be. Only recently as graphics improved have games begun to take a more realistic, gritty approach.

I get enough real life in.. well, real life. I go to videogames to experience things I could never experience in real life.

When I play most HD "mature" games I tend to hear the game yelling "look how COOL we are! We are so mature! We are artistic! and check out our realistic grafix! We are just like Hollywood!"

But to each his own I say.

PC

my total wii played time = less than 3 hours and i had it since launch... total ps3 time = uncountable... if only on CoD a couple of days (literally) xbox 360 = same thing but a little less...
you should ask why HD owners dont want to buy a wii :P (thats in my opinion)

I have read several people here stating that they have neither time nor money to buy one of the HD consoles.

As i have no money problem, i have tried and buy an Xbox360 and a PS3 last year. One of them has been sold and the other is a massive dust collector. I don't know why 'cause i know for sure i won't buy BR for years ...

I don't have enough play time for all my Wii/DS/PC games (i have 5 games in my backlog).

Too many games already
