No, no and no!

Not a chance

Oh for god's sake. PS3 is not THAT supply constrained. Anyone who really wants a PS3 can get one. In other words, it's doubtful that it's hindering PS3 sales a significant amount. And if you're gonna use the excuse of it being out of stock in some stores, so is the Wii.

PS3 stock may be hard to come by in certain locations, but it's not like the in 2006-2008 when you litterally couldn't buy a Wii unless you were willing to pay $200 extra or wait in line at 6 in the morning.

I wonder if people are gonna still be using the shortage excuse for PS3 when it's still selling similar numbers in August..

lol atleast something has stayed the same, dilusional fanboys XD

1. Degree matters; if one is out of stock more often at more retailers (see amazon stock), it'll affect that console's sales to a greater degree.

2. I hope you can see how, if there were shortages from now till August, the shortage "excuse" would not be disproven.  Everyone would just be disgusted with Sony.  Further, august is months away, and so some natural decline might be offset by more supply...lower or similar sales in August therefore doesn't prove that PS3 couldn't sell 5k more per week now, or whatever.

@Kirby: not sure which group you are calling delusional fanboys, but I think it's beating up a straw man to suggest that PS3 fans believe that without the intermittant hardware shortages, PS3 would be outselling the Wii right now.  Few people believe that; I bet some people answering yes in this poll thought the PS3 might outsell Wii for 1 week or something; I bet some other people answering yes weren't PS3 fans...  But anyway, if alternatively you mean that denial of PS3 shortages is pure delusion, on the level of the Iraqi general saying that the Americans had been defeated, while US tanks rolled into the city in the background, I agree.

1)Yes, and that one store would probably be Wal-Mart. Also, it doesn't matter if one place is out of stock, so long as one person has it. Consumers are not going to go to Amazon, see it's out, and say "Oh well, I guess I wont have a PS3 then." If they actually want the product, they will go to other stores and buy it. People are not that lazy.

2)Yes, but don't you think it is a little silly to think that there would be a shortage for that long, esspecially when they aren't shipping many PS3s anyway. Seems dumb to think that a large multinational corperation can only send out, like >150k a week when their competitors can do better. Makes you think that the shortage is an excuse, not a real happening.

Also, remember that when Wiis were out of stock, people would wait in lines and calls stores endlessly to get one. People had to go though a lot to get one. I have seen no lines in front of Best Buy to get PS3s. I hear no calls to get a PS3. So where is this mad shortage? Also, the only source we have on a PS3 shortage is Gamestop said they were out of stock for Q1. It is now Q2, going on 3.

Exactly.. Do these people going on about massive shortages REALLY believe that most potential PS3 buyers would go to one or two stores, find them out of stock, and just give up? If they DO give up that easilly, then they must not have wanted to get one that much anyway. Only certain stores are out of stock, at certain times, in certain location. Meaning the vast majority of people who want a PS3, can probably still get one, they may just have to look a bit harder. But this means that it shouldn't really affect sales much if at all.

Another thing these people fail to answer, is if there is such big shortages in the US, why is it that Europe, which tends to sell more PS3s, is selling a similar amount to the US on a regular basis? It's obvious there are no shortages THERE, so why are sales almost equal to US sales?

A lot of people I know would only buy on Amazon b/c you don't have to pay tax or shipping.  (well, you are supposed to pay use tax to your state, but people seem not to...).  And in my town if you checked amazon, sonystyle, and bestbuy online, then went to Best Buy, Gamestop, Walmart and Target in town, chances are you would not find a PS3.  And yes, many people will search that much, but some others will not.  If it's not at BB when they stop by, they'll wait on it.  And the people who are more price sensitive or want it as a blu-ray player now that it is cheaper are not always going to be so gung ho that they search all around diligently until they find it.

I don't know what this little mini debate is really about.  There are shortages, period.  They cause *some* degree of slower sales, though I don't care at all to debate or estimate how many.

A "supply" feature on VGC would be great too, that's part of the VG sales world in my opinion.
