Forums - Sales Discussion - Mass Effect 2 Sales - What Went Wrong? (I am very worried)

I was surprised at those figures as well. I'm just spitballing here, but perhaps it had something to do with how they marketed it? Their ads tried to portray the game as some kind of edgy frat-bro game (remember the emphasis on Jack? Or the wholly out-of-place intro with Aria? Those were the moments that got the most exposure).

It doesn't have Call of Duty, Halo, or GTA in the title, so 360 fans won't buy it.

It has done well enough that we will definitely see the third installment (as promised) so I am not to sure why you are worried?

Disappointing yes, but absolutely terrible? No.

If held too it, I couldn't tell you which I enjoyed better (ME 1 or 2) they were both awesome and ME 2 definitely deserves to go as high as ME 1.

i dont think is better than fallout 3 in fact a purist would say mass effect is not really a RPG at all, but i have no idea way it sold so little i think is a great game, maybe there was too much competition at launch.

Hey Listen!

Its a sequel to a game that sold just over 2 million on 360.....and most gamers like to have multi player in their games...
First week sales surprised me a lot, unfortunately, its heavily frontloaded.

Didnt seem to stop, Oblivion, Fallout 3, or even the first Mass Effect from having better sales.

Quite frankly (and in my opinion) I don't find the game very appealing, matter of fact, I found Fallout 3 and Demon's Souls to be superior gaming experiences regardless of the lavish reviews ME2 got. I think that's the crux of the matter, ME2 seems to be an internet forum sensation, much like Gow. You'd think that these games would hit 12 million each due to all the buzz on game boards, of course the reality is quite different. The basic gist is that reviews are only relavent to a niche group in regards to gaming, furthermore, internet hype is not a reliable barometer for a game's success. I know it's hard for some to wrap their heads around ME2's disappointing sales figures, hell I shake my head at Demon's souls sales. But I do realize that these games don't have the mass appeal that is necessary to be a major global success.

yea me2 sold so poor they aren't making another one lol...stop complaining...it sold 2 million copies...dead space and demon souls sold less then me2 and I those were better games...me2 is a good game but maybe it only appealed to certain people...its not like the first sold that much...to be the person that complained abiut dragonage selling more...they are different game....if that's the case....just dance sold more...its a shame if a good games doesn't sell more then it should...but there's no reason to get mad about it...

Because most pepole who buy WRPGs in the west don't do so because of the story and different experiences that they can have, but because statistics are cool, and ME2 lost a lot of the min/max that was in the first.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
