Nürburgring at Night Confirmed for Gran Turismo 5
May 20th, 2010 by Jordan

There’s some good news confirmed in a new article from Auto Express – a “secret” demo was apparently at last weekend’s 24-hour race, whichshowed the Green Hell at night. They were also able to confirm that the race-spec Lexus IS-F which Yamauchi drove in the event will be included in the game:

The V8-powered saloon will appear in the new game– which Owen got to try during the event. Our man took the controls of a Sony PlayStation 3 to sample the complete Nürburgring 24 Hours circuit – for the first time in video game history. And he even got to try the new night racing feature.

Plus, for the first time, gamers will be able to fully experience the Nürburgring, recreating the 24 Hours race, which uses both the grand prix track and the 15.2-mile Nordschleife. The latter – dubbed Green Hell – can also be driven at night, to get an idea of what the pros go through during one of the world’s toughest races.

The article still does not confirm a dynamic, changing day/night cycle, and it’s interesting that they specified only the “latter” circuit, or the Nordschleife, can be driven at night. Hopefully we will know more details soon. Thanks to Krymzen18 for the tip!

Finally, this news is better than pretty much everything said and shown in the past few days

Still doesn't confirm a dynamic night and day cycle, but if there's is a true 24 hours race, like the article said, then it's a likely scenario. Personally, I can just imagine how it would feel like to drive the Nurb at night. That track is already hell during the day and at night, you'll only have the front lights to guide the way

Here's hoping a release date is shown at E3

i knew it! they did work on the trees! they made it night so you can't see them!

its only ever about the trees

OT: good news, i can't wait for this game!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Loool, I totally forgot about that.

I guess now people who want to see the trees at night will have to stop the car during a race and point the headlights towards the background.

That's just a clever strategy made by PD and KY for all the complainers to constantly lose night races! Brilliant!!

It's not just a race at night. It's THE RACE at night

This also opens up the possiblity of Le Mans 24 hours having night racing as well.

Personally, night racing was one my most wanted features on GT5, and I wanted to see how far they would take that feature. To actually race the Nurb at night, is going to be the most hellish experience I've ever had in a sim racer. The old track doesn't have any means of illumination other than your own car headlights. And we all know how hellish the Nurb is already, even at day.

I m just saying, it is not that jaw dropping for the average gamer

The average GT gamer doesn't even get to the endurace races, much less have a shot at the Nurb 24H race. This is a great news to those GT fans that want to get the most out of the game.
