Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Activision brings back the old "Punch Nintendo" Ads with Blur

There's a golden rule of advertising, that being that you do not insult your competition since it will almost always backfire. Outperform, fine. Outshine, great. But insult? That just makes your audience automatically antagonistic, and usually towards YOU instead of whomever you're insulting. You might grab a portion of the juvenile demographic since it's even been scientifically shown that teenagers don't process empathy the way adults do, but you're just going to upset most of your audience below the age of 13 or above the age of 19.

From what I've played of Blurr it sounds like they've hit their target market spot on with this advert then.

Surprised critics are being so harsh on reviews for Blurr as it's a pretty dam awesome game. Maybe they're all Mario Kart fanboys or something :P.

Lol holy shit. I almost forgot how much SEGA was into expansion, and lock-on carts. That is freakin hilarious. Oh SEGA such great software, such stupid management.

And this is why the Apple vs PC ads piss a lot of people off.

Oh god yes. I've found myself spewing anti-Mac bile before, even though i really have nothing against them. I just hated those commercials so much.

Rarely do i yell at the TV. Those damned things were an exception.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yeah from what I can tell even the Mac faithfull weren't big fans of those ads. I for instance hate them. But they seem to have worked since people talk a about them so darn much, even if it's mostly complaints.

One interesting thing, is that some people actually like more the Brock Lee part of the commercial than Blur, they actually like so much that now we have fanart of Brock Lee and his friends.

Brock Lee even has is own Facebook page, who knows maybe Activision can make a good Kart racing game from this.

Actually, Activision should make a game like that on WiiWare.

Maybe they could instead of mocking Mario Kart, make a game that ribs on MK clones.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I think Activision is a little late on the draw with making fun of Mario Kart. The game came out in 2008 and has already sold over 20 million copies. Besides, I think that more people will still be playing and enjoying Mario Kart for years to come, while Blur will just be a "Blur" in most people's minds.

So, Activision punches Nintendo, then they announce that they are making a Wii-only version of a GoldenEye007 game. Wacky.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
