Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo Owning Third Parties!

Problem is : Nintendo DO own third parties. Basically, despite numerous third party titles being released on the Wii, almost only Nintendo titles are reaching top of the charts. The 3 million sellers of the Wii are Wii Sports, Zelda and Wiiplay.

And if you read any forum, you know the most anticipated titles are : Smash Bro, Mario Striker, Mario Paper or Metroid.

How long will third party studios deal with this situation ?

Miyamoto himself already adressed this. He's called out third party devs to stop using fourth string programming teams.

Third party developers shouldn't just sit and let Nintendo take all the money. They need to stop half assing their attempts and look what Nintendo is doing.

agreed.  Nintendo actually tries and puts out amazing games...people often shrug it off because it's their console, but 3rd parties can make great games too if they worked harder.  I foresee a lot of lame party games from 3rd parties looking for a quick cash in.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I think i will wait and see if third parties actually release some AAA games on the wii before i pass judgement on this thread.

Actually are there any 3rd party AAA games coming to the wii??

Obviously there will be AAA third party games released for the Wii because no system that has sold more than 5 Million copies and laster more than 12 months has not had a AAA third party game for it ...

I'm not going to make any claims that an upcomming game is going to be amazing quality, but I think Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, My Sims, No More Heroes, One Piece: Unlimited Adventure, Dragon Quest Swords, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles are probably the best announced exclusive Wii games that will be released in 2007. I expect that I will probably be able to add 10 or more games to this list after E3 when developers demonstrate games for Q3 and Q4 of 2007.

I agree with Miyamoto on this one. 3rd parties don't do as well because they don't work as hard at it as nintendo does.

 Good question.

After E3 i bet you will be sticking your foot in your mouth and how mant AAA titles has the 360 had in 16months and how many does PS3 have right now? And why is Nintendo downed for making great games that's so backwards.

alot better then before.

to bad sales will be low while most of the games will be mediocre.

dev might cost half that of dev for 360... but 360 stuff can be ported to PS3 and PC and vice versa.

look at the best 3rd party games on all the systems....they sure as hell aint on the wii.

It doesn´t matter what you say 3rd parties don´t sell bad on Wii (don´t give me the Madden example please, Madden Wii has got longer legs than Madden PS3 and could catch up to it in abput 3 months).

Games won´t be mediocre why should they? Because the console is called Wii and you like Playstation more?

Do you realize 3rd parties give the Wii greater support now while the PS3 still sells mediocre? And do you really think if the Wii catches up to the 360 at the end of this year the 3rd parties will put all their good games on the PS3 and will overlook the possibility of making games for Wii with lower costs and higher sales? Don´t kid yourself and don´t try to prove yourself a fanboy...

@Topic: Yes Nintendo did a great job but they still have a long way to go. What they have to prove is that 3rd party games which are developed by the best teams of the publishers can really sell as good as 1st party titles do it. Let´s just hope the 3rd party games will sell if they are good.

wii gamers are casual gamers or nin fan boys = low 3rd party sales.  No 3rd party will beat out Nin at making wii games, they will almost always be second rate.  Games will be mediocre becasue the console is weak.  So you wont see unreal 3, wii cant handle unreal engine 3!

3rd party devs have a choice... wii or PS3/360/PC

If two or three third party games already out climb across the 1 million WW mark, will people stop claiming third parties can't sell on Wii?

Rayman has a VERY good shot at reaching that mark (at 375K total in NA... Averaged 18,350 a week in Jan, and 16,100 a week in Feb, ie awesome legs... And also appears to be selling well in Europe.)

And Red Steel, Monkey Ball, and Sonic will all be doing over 500K, with long-term shots at 1mil (subsequent holidays, price cuts, sequels renewing interest, launch game legs).

Plus a possible 500K+ end total for a game like Trauma Center is HUGE (170K in NA, not sure about EU). This is a game with a budget-game budget... Averaged 6K a week in Jan, 5K a week in Feb... I'm seeing Cooking Mama charting pretty high in some of these Wii-format retailler reports... Another game where an eventual 500K is just massive.

Anyways... What I really wanted to say was... If Nintendo owns them, how can they be a third party?

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

No Wii gamers are not just fanboys or casuals that´s just...not true (I´ll stay polite )

Wii can´t handle Unreal engine 3 but you don´t need it to make good games. And even mediocre 3rd party games sell good at this moment. How would big 3rd party games sell?
