The "but you can buy it online!" argument is a bit silly. This is completely anecdotal, but from working at a video games retailer I can tell you people greatly prefer purchasing video game hardware locally. People make the decision they want a game system, go buy it and a maybe a game or two. No waiting involved.

Sure, some of us are comfortable buying $300+ electronics online, but I assure you there are plenty of people who either don't trust online sites, greatly prefer buying locally, or want the instant gratification of being able to use their purchase right away. If they can't find the hardware they want locally, they may wait until they can or go buy something else that is available.

No, the PSP is demand constrained.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

I still don't think the the shortages of PS3 is anywhere near what people are saying. And if they are, that is just absolutely pathetic for Sony that they can only crank out 45,000 in a week. It's like they don't WANT to do well..

If in a week or two PS3 sales suddenly rise to 70,000-80,000 sales in America, I will gladly eat my words, but I still think most people that want a PS3 bad enough can get one.

Fine, have it your way, PS3 has shortages. But if that's true, then Sony is in major trouble if they can only crank out 45,000 a week.

Debut week for Black Wii and it doesn't seem to be the hardware mover people claimed it would be.

Like I've said all along. The Black Wii didn't do much for Eu sales either. Colors just aren't that big of a deal on home consoles (and outside of Japan ).

from that statement i can only assume Wii2 and 363 in 2012?

I think the only one overexaggerating the shortage on here is you. Nobody is saying the PS3 is going to sell 70-80k a week  once the system comes back in stock. Just like nobody is saying it should outsell the Wii or whatnot. A shortage is a shortage. If it's a massive shortage or a minor shortage, it's still a shortage. So stop acting like it doesn't exist because it's small in comparison to the Wii's shortage problems from a few years ago.

I just don't get some of the posters here. It's like they ignore what's actual no matter how "plain as day" it is.

yea. real sad. facts are facts.

It seems pretty clear from the last fiscal report that sony is holding back stock in America where they still lose money on each console sold, and are keeping supply high in areas where they can make a little money. The new design should allow them to bring more stock into the US but they are probably still losing money on each console sold here. Sony's recent announcment that they now make money on every console sold seems to suggest they are averaging that "each console sold".

I think we can rule out it being a supply chain problem now, sony isn't having a hard time getting 45,000 units to the US, it's definately by design.

It's Europe where they should be worried about losing money. The Euro is at its lowest level against the yen since 2001.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

um how are they in trouble when the system is + YOY and now sells for a profit?
