What does this even mean??

PS3 has to many gatekeeper functions on who can develop and sell products and what kind of functions said products can have.

Basically, it makes sense to port to Apple because they can do things like Steam cloud and give free updates.

Basically valve LOVES modders and actually building relationships with their fans... etc.  They're all about bringing people in, getting ideas from their fans and collborating with them to make things better.

True they can't do that on 360 either... however it takes no effort to port to 360.  It does make a lot of sense.

Seriously... LISTEN to the interview and you'll understand.

You may actually learn something, it's a very telling and good interview about game development.

Hmmm, they dont explain this in the interview. and they only use derogetory comments for the PS3 not the 360. its fair enough that you've explained that these guys are talking sense. but you cant deny their attitude is against the PS3 for reasons unknown to us, they should be attacking the other consoles as well if their impartial, which in my opinion they dont seem to be.

What do you mean they don't explain this in the interiview?   It's like what the first 20 minutes of the interview are about.  Did you skip until someone said PS3 or something?  The first 20-30 minutes are about Valve's design philosphy and how open platforms are the future.

When PS3 gets mentioned off handidly it's referred to back into that context.

Also, they actually do talk about Games for Windows and Xblive store being negative as well.

I refuse to play a valve game until it is on PS3.

That's like refusing to eat a hot dog until it's been dropped on the floor.

No offense to PS3 or consoles in general, but valve games are built around the community in ways that make them last much longer and make them much better games.

I can kind of see what you mean by this, PS3 has yet to have a game that starts a community and makes the game last longer, but that doesn't excuse Valve for not trying to make one, you should always try, sometimes you fail, but you just get back up and try again.

You're completely right.  *cough* LBP *cough* MNR *cough*  Damn cold.

Your comparing LBP and MNR to the kinds of things that can be made with mod tools?  Really?

It's not even remotely comparable.

What you can do with these games is "revolutionary" as far as consoles go, but the PC is so far ahead there is no comparison.

Complete GAMES being 100% changed (Full remodel, brand  new story, new triggers, new characters, new everything)

Just off the top of my head:

Silly amounts of Mods for Neverwinter Nights, Torchlight and hell Warcraft 3.  Fucking custom WC3 games have become their OWN retailish games!

To be fair to Sony they did support proper mods on Unreal Tournament 3. If it really came down to it Valve could release a Steam tool that could convert mods to work on the PS3 like Epic did. Of course, they'd have to properly port the Source engine first.

Still, the possibility is there.

If i recall correctly though, you needed a PC for the modding.  Additionally Sony's internet system is MUCH more structed and controlled then Mac or PC.

Not saying they didn't. I can't imagine modders working on the PS3. Just that it's possible to release mods on PS3 if a developer decides to go that route. Definately wouldn't have the complete freedom of PC or Mac, but if you create a mod, surely you'd want it to reach the largest possible fanbase, and if a significant number are also on PS3 I don't see why they couldn't release a PS3 version of their mod.

I swear I thought he said open like a big Mac. It would have made more sense coming from him.

Annnnnnnnnnnd there goes the fat joke.

I knew we couldn't have "PS3" and "Valve" in the same senetence without some kind of immature comments.

Well ill be playing L4D1 or 2 on my 360.

@Kasz216

I wish Valve would put mods on the 360. Meh.

Im sure Valve will start porting games onto 360.

In all of this the funniest thing is probably taking Apple as an example of a developer with an opened platform.....

If Apple was so opened they would support flash on the Iphones and not randomly decide to ban apps from the appstore.........

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Which is probably why they said "Mac" and not iphones/ipods. Macs as computers are much more open than iphones/ipods/ipad, etc. which Apple basically has a strangehold over.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

And infact called out the Iphone as a failed model.

Hummmm... open like Mac our open for Steam on PS3???.

Everyone knows Sony hates Third-Party studios, they've been doing that since the PS1.

I have to say I don't understand what he's saying. Valve games are on the 360, another console as closed or arguably more closed than PS3, what's he talking about?

Clearly consoles aren't as open as PCs/MACs, but Valve has been happily putting games on consoles since Xbox and PS2.

Does he mean he wants Steam on PS3 via browser or something?

Personally I want Valve to stop talking about anything that stops them getting Episode 3 out the door.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Why are they the only dev that has such a problem with the ps3?
