Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are some Nintendo fans angry with Move?

Seece, I really hope that this isn't a hit and run thread with the purpose of getting Nintendo and Sony fans fighting against each other which isn't that uncommon of a practice for someone from the 360 camp. Tell me that you are better than that.

Relax, it's only been a few hours.  I'm sure he'll be returning any second now to contribute more to his own thread.

Any second now.

They have certainly been commercially successful, by the biggest and best games all still use standard controls. Even the heavy hitters on the wii have little motion control (Mario, zelda, smash bros, etc.)

"Biggest" - Motion-controller Wii games like Wii Fit have outsold nearly everything on the HD twins.

"Best" - Debateable. Mario Galaxy remains a popular pick for the best game of the gen to date. (I maintain that it's motion controls were an integral and enhancing part of it)

I guess what I'm trying to say is this: even though they have been labeled as the future, the vast majority of games don't use motion controls and thats not gonna change any time soon. Even with the release of move and natal motion controls will be relegated to a select few games.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that Sony fanboys, and indeed Sony themselves, spent 3 years bashing the Wii's controls as "fad/gimmick/lame/gay/casual/etc" but now because it has "playstation" written on it, suddenly it's "ZOMG, awesomest thing evaa!!!1one!"

This.

This too. Personally, I couldn't care less about Move, really, but I can understand why it irks a lot of people.

It's not that they copied Nintendo, it's that they did it AFTER downplaying Wii, its controls, and Nintendo in general since the console was unveiled. It's the utter hypocrisy of it.

My problem with Sony this generation has been that it cannot seem to find its way.

Remember rumble
Remember B/C
Now its take two on motion controls.

Other than become the winning side in the next DVD format (which given the transition to digital may be a hollow victory), the PS3 has been a mess this generation.

Now everyone is talking about how great the tech for Move is vs. the Wii Remote. Pachter calls it "what the Wii HD should have been" and PS3 fans talk about how great it will be.

Meanwhile, the comparisons are not always fair (the Wii Remote with WM+ is the new standard -- now sold with every Wii). And the misguided belief that there will be great support for the Move is just the stuff of ignorant, idle dreams.

After all, when I mentioned the fact that Sony was trying to showcase ports of bad Wii games in the magazine preview at a game store (e.g., AMF Pinbusters: http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=31553&region=All), the Sony Rep overheard me and talked about how great it would be and that SoCom would be Move compatible. Given this same person (the Sony Rep) tried to sell me on the PSP-Go, I would take the advise with a grain of salt. (I know this is off base but it happened).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Only somewhat valid reason I can think of is that Sony at first claimed motion controls to be gimmicky, and then did a quickturn and made their own controller. But even that should be seen as a victory for those Nintendo fans who embraced it from the beginning. Unless motion controls was only cool as long as it was exclusive to Nintendo.

Otherwise it's mostly the usual fanboy talk. "It belongs to us", similar to the recent FFvXIII discussions. You also have fanboys using the "Copy card", something you can also see with Sony fanboys trying to bash Natal.

I believe most Nintendo fans (the ones that liked motion controls, that is) are atleast a bit interested in both Move and Natal, but I also believe that many are disappointed, atleast in Move, when you look at the upcoming games. Most of the games have already been done on the Wii.

the inovation in the control's have not been proven yet

Been living under a rock since 2005?

Gaming has already changed massively with the advent of motion control. Not only have the methods of gaming changed, but whole demographics that shunned games before have now become gamers.

Natal and Move are themselves acknowledgements of the Wii's innovation.

yes i have been living under a rock? so your saying sony hasn't been watching the change in innovatoin? if they weren't watching they wouldn't becoming out with these control's. i don't think natal has anything to do with nintendo's innovation. Natal eyetoy fits better. but even as a PS3 fan i can say natal might be better then eyetoy. and as a nintendo fan i can say they can't beat 1:1 tracking.

The point of the post you were originally responding to was that Sony doesn't have the advantage of these motion controls being new. The Wii wowed gamers, Move can't and won't have the same effect. It's coming four years too late for that (not three like originally stated).

thanks for clarifying. it seems like we found commen ground. agreed. what hppend to the mario statment?

P.S. am i giving up to soon?

I don't see why, that's how it works. Look at Apple and HTC, HTC took the concept of the iphone and put their own little spin on it (droids).

Uhmm clearly you know nothing about HTC. HTC has been making smartphones for a much longer time than Apple.

HTC does not make the OS. In the case of the suit Apple is going after the android phones. Android is a google venture but many of the features that apple is suing over are also present in the WinMo phones as well. It happens to be a case I am very familiar with for work related reasons.

When a PS3 owner says CoD: World at War looks better on PS3, that is has more players online, that is has more game types online, that is has split-screen co-op, that is has 4 player online co-op and that it has the Nazi zombie mode all Wii owners could say back was "But motion controls are better" like that somehow made up for missing all those things.

Now they don't even have that.

Wii owners can feel pretty content that PS3 owners are just now getting something they've enjoyed since 2006.

And hey, PS2 owners did just fine last gen coping with multiplats that were almost always the worst in every department.
