Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo raises forecasts, AGAIN

http://edition.cnn.com/2007/BUSINESS/04/05/nintendo.results.reut/

TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Nintendo raised its sales and profit forecasts for the business year just ended for the fourth time on Thursday, citing robust demand for its DS handheld games. The company said sales totaled about 966 billion yen ($8.1 billion) for the year ended March 31, up from its previous forecast of 900 billion yen, and compared with a consensus of 929 billion yen in a poll of 17 analysts by Reuters Estimates.

Nintendo, which competes with Microsoft and Sony in the $30 billion video game industry, said its profits are also likely to have exceeded its prior projections, but it did not give specific figures.

The Kyoto-based company said it now expects a foreign exchange-related profit of 20 billion yen for the 2006/07 business year, rather than its previous forecast of a 10 billion yen loss.

Nintendo, known for such game characters as Mario and Pokemon, plans to report profit figures when it announces its annual earnings on April 26.

Prior to the announcement, shares in Nintendo closed the morning down 0.6 percent at 33,450 yen, underperforming the Nikkei average, which lost 0.43 percent.

Too bad there's no call options to buy for the ADR listed in the US.  Shouldn't be too greedy I guess...

the Wii is an epidemic.

There's one of two ways to do it. :)

Method 1

A) Attatch chain to rocket

B) Attatch other end of chain to Stock Prices

C) Aim Rocket at Moon and fire

Method 2

A) Release a bunch of products that sell like no tommorow.

B) Watch your products earn the artwork titled "It Prints Money.gif" :)

I think the first is more entertaining, personally. :)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

I pray there will be a dip before they announce on April 26. If it drops below $35 again I'm all in.

Good luck ;)

Hopefully they will announce solid DS shipments (hell, they are aiming to MANUFACTURE 30mill this year alone!), and have some positive news on Wii shipments (guess 10-12mill units shipped next FY).

The main issue for Nintendo is keeping this momentum up. Any sort of slip could have huge effects on their stock price. Then again, it could keep soaring (and may reach 40,000 yen by the end of the year?).

Well at least some companies is making money in this industry.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

What's scary is Nintendo is making a profit even with the lousy yen. Now if the yen were to weaken a bit, it will go through the roof.

If the yen weakens too much, that NeoGAF "Nintendo buys Japan" picture might become a lot more truthful. :)

Anyone who wants to buy missed the boat.

I disagree. Most of their profits wer based off the DS. Wii profits haven't really even arrived yet. When the double whammy hits, the sky is the limit.
