Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is Alan Wake 520p because the 360 is maxed out ?

I mean this is is a legitimate question. Remedy had a lot of years and money from MS and they couldn't do more than 520p ? Did the 360 already reach its limit ? Discuss.

No the 360 is FAR from maxed out and this proves it.

People said Gears 2 was the max then Mass Effect 2 came out and killed it. Now Alan Wake reigns king of graphics until something else dethrones it.

King of subHD graphics maybe, but you know there were games released in 720p which have better graphics.

Ever heard of Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 ? Not even close.

Oh, boy...

This is getting old. The other thread at least tried to be funny, not spiteful...

Strange I prefer that one. At least Alan Wake being 520p is a fact, while RdR PS3 being 640p is just a rumor right now since no article were published on the subject.

Truth vs rumor, I choose truth.

640p > 520p anyway.

Every piece of hardware has a limit, and the 360 is no different. Remedy chose to lower the resolution to focus on making other aspects of the game look better. You can't have everything, Remedy had to make a choice about what they wanted and they sacrificed resolution to gain in other areas.

and I choose jokes

None of the current consoles will be maxed out by the time The Next Gen rolls around.

Nice try tho.

No. I think it has everything to do with:

1 - the game's evolution over time from open world to more of a hybrid

2 - Remedy being small and arguably taking on too much with 360 and PC version where PC was aiming to leverage some pretty new tech

3 - Time/Cost considerations on the look vs more time to optimize and polish the code

Of course 360 has an upper limit, so does the PS3 or any piece of HW, but often the developers skill and ability to spend money optimizing code vs finding a 'good enough' balance has more to do with the final graphics and performance than the HW being maxed out.

Looking at AW it's a little disappointing the resolution wasn't higher, but I reckon than they will be able to achieve higher resolutions with further code optimization on the 360 HW, so like I say I see it as more of a code issue than a HW issue.

I think the design of the engine for open world vs the final design of the game also gave them some issues with optimization of code as well.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
