when they said apple was their new enemy and the sony-ninty battle was over, i think they are getting a bit big headed and need to be careful..

That quote was NEVER UTTERED...EVER. Unless you have a real verifiable QUOTE from anyone at Nintendo saying that, this needs to be thrown into the trash.

Nintendo is feeling pretty confident about their current position in the market, with the report noting that Iwata feels as if the "battle with Sony" is a "victory already won," and that Apple is the one that should now be treated as the "enemy of the future."

This is not a veriable quote, what's the source?  The only 'source' that I have seen for this says something like "it is reported Iwata said...........".

I don't personally care whether he said it or not but, for the sake of accuracy, if we are going to start flaming certain people for trash talking and being arrogant etc. a proper quote and source would be nice.

You can google "battle with sony is over" - or "apple enemy of the future".

And they can all be traced back to one or two articles saying, "it is reported that Iwata said......".  It's not phrased this way accidentally, it's phrased this way because no one actually heard Iwata saying these things and they know if they claim he did they can get in trouble.

I see most of the smack talk from Nintendo is just people spinning what was said or trying to take an honest comment and turn it into flaming comments.

Sad and pathetic but it only goes to show you how little Nintendo smack talks when people actually have to make up and spin things to make it look that way.

Nintendo is in first kids. It's not trash talking to acknowledge your position.
Not a single legit posting in this thread. Just random kids going off on what they think they heard but they couldnt be bothered to find out if it actually happened

here's the original quote - source

"Satoru Iwata, the Nintendo president, is understood to have told his senior executives recently to regard the battle with Sony as a victory already won and to treat Apple, and its iPhone and iPad devices, as the “enemy of the future” ."

Sounds more like speculation than a quote.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That's not a quote. A REAL quote would be something like

"We have won over sony", said Iwata, President on Nintendo. "This time our enemy to defeat in the future is Apple".

And so far nobody has proved something like that. Just "my grandpa said that his barber told him that Iwata is going to kill Apple"-like rumours.

He was asked a question he answered it. For the most part he is largely correct. The media has hyped up the iPad as a revolution and the hype machine was building for innovation. Instead they show the iPad something that will appeal to many people but after E3 was clear was not revolutionary.

He also attacked glasses I can't even get people to put glasses on for nVidia Vision(I use them). That said glasses make images darker(even in the movie theater you are losing at least 50 percent light because of the polarized filters over your eyes and the shutter(home) system does not do better in this regard.

Sony and MS would not of backed down, Steve Jobs would not of backed down from such a question and if you don't believe type in Flash Steve Jobs. So you expect Nintendo to. They gave an opinion the opinion makes sense. You do not have to agree with it. even if you like Nintnedo you do not have to agree with them all of the time. Just like if you like Sony/MS you don't ave to agree with them all of the time.

Then the thread is pointless and you also back's up what I said before, all companies can say negative thing's about their competitors and it really shouldn't matter. When company's compete in the same market, I expect them to trash talk and despite if the statement was true in the guy's 'opinion' it still should be labeled as trash talk. I'm just trying to exempt Nintendo from this godly status a lot of people seemed to give them recently, even though they have been the most arrogant in the later part of this gen.

No trash talk is not an opinion. Trash talk is saying something about a competitor that is meant to cover your own weaknesses. For instance Only kids or grannies buy Nintendo is trash talk it is not based on fact and it is not the grounds of opinions since the facts are researchable in that case Saying motion controls are a fad is not trash talk. Saying waggle controls make you look like an idiot is. You might think they are the same one is attacking the people who use it the other is an pinion of what they see the future is.

You don't expect companies to say nice things about other companies. However trash talk is more then just expressing an opinion. However if you drink the Kool Aid of Company X then trash talk doesn't seem like that.

So, what Nintendo said wasn't trash talk? I can't see how what they said about 3D and the I-Pad is any different (maybe less aggressive) than some thing's Sony and Microsoft has said in the past. Saying that Sony's 3D tech won't work or it would be embarrassing for people to wear glasses while gaming (it's not embarrassing to stand around and wave your arm's apparently), that's an attack against Sony. Saying that the Ipad is just a bigger Ipod touch and that it was unimpressive, that's an attack against Apple. If Sony or Apple had said that 3DS at E3 this year was just a DS with 3D, that it was unimpressive and they couldn't imagine someone walking around playing one, then the Nintendo forum's would be in uproar.

In the end, I'm just trying to say that Nintendo aren't perfect, they just happen to be ahead of everyone else in the game and so they don't need to trash talk. Iwata and Reggie aren't saint's under the God that is Miyamoto.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

No. No. No.

I asked for a specific, verifiable QUOTE that anyone whatsoever at Nintendo has made any sort of remark like this. That is not a quote, that is some no-name journalist just making a drive-by hack job to score some hits.

Btw, I emailed the Times Online asking for verification on this, and of course they never got back to me.

Exactly.

It was all too predictable that people would start coming into this thread and use that article to base their argument on.
