Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Natal Developer: Natal guesses Player Movement?

I don't know, I just feel that this Mark Rank is trying to bank on the hype of Natal to promote his own company. Just the whole tone is "Our tech is much much better". Whether it's true or not remains to be seen, but at this point, I'd take this kind of comment with a grain of salt.

I guess we'll know soon enough, a lot of negative press but then again the Wii was also heavily criticized before release. Now a lot of why it was criticized turned out to be true, yet it sold almost then the PS3 and 360 combined. If it actually does ''guess'' then I'm not buying it as it clearly won't be accurate enough to satisfy me. But the Wii isn't accurate either so apparantly many people do not care. Either way I'll reserve judgement atleast till the live event is done. That is if they actually show some Natal games that will be available for retail.

When pushed as to whether or not NATAL will actually work as advertised, Rank states: “I hope it works, yes. [laughs].”

It should be noted that Sony’s competing motion technology also performs an amount of extrapolation as to where the Move controller is at any time, especially when the glowing orb of innuendo is placed behind the player’s back. That said, we reckon it’s probably a lot easier to track a coloured ball that may drop out of line of sight for a moment compared to some drunk lunatic who gets startled by the cat, stumbles and ends up wrapped in the living room curtains.

As long as it works I say!!

Gotta love the example given in THAT article by the person.  The person CAN'T be biased against Natal, can they?

Oh wait, thesixthaxis dug it up and reports it.  NAH, that site doesn't have a system it is supporting.  By the way, how much do people actually get paid to post this stuff?  I guess a rule of thumb is: When a person doesn't own a console, and they post information in a forum related to that console, odds are it is going to be some negative stuff.

Anyhow, I think there IS a big, "I HOPE this works with Natal" now.  If it doesn't work well at all, it will be hard to see Microsoft being successful with it.

How is it biased?  He was just trying to add a bit of humor to the article, methinks.  A "drunken lunatic" is hardly going to be your typical Natal user, thus I doubt it was intended in anyway to knock the device.

Really? Will Move have an easier time tracking a drunk getting scared by the cat and getting wrapped up in the curtains?

The inclusion and wording of that line is meant to plant the idea in a person's head that "Well, Move may have similar problems but don't Natal's sound so much worse?".

I don't think either the Move or Natal system can tell how many fingers are behind your back.

Tease.

no but Milo can take a guess can't he?

And Im not sure way this is big news to any one, thats how all motion controls work. They take input and try to match it to the programmed motions.

Provided the glowing ball is visible through out the whole ordeal, then yes, move will track it perfectly.

even when the ball is covered up it tracks like a wiimote, so i think ps move will be much better, a glowing sphere is so much easier to track and far less tasking, hence the differnece in how much each solution demands:):)

it's the future of handheld

PS VITA = LIFE

The official Vita thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=130023&page=1

well we will know in a few short weeks how well move and natal will track. i can't wait for E3

If I'm not mistaken some racing sims force feedback also "guesses" a little so there is not a delay between what happen on screen vs feedback. If natal take some time ( a few ms) to process just like feedback then a little guessing it's not necessary a bad thing.
