Forums - Sony Discussion - Premium PSN plans for E3 reveal, to cost “less than £50 per year”

£50 is about $80-$85 I think (and Euros, oddly).

What suprises me here is that people are ALREADY being pulled in by the marketing spin. Ooh ooh! A free game every month! Well it isn't free, is it? You're paying for it in the subscription charge! The beauty of the model is that you PAY to get 'FREE' stuff. The other extras, like a music streaming thing, will cost a little for Sony to set up, but then next to nothing to run in the long term. Similarly, bonuses like giving new features to premium users, or updating premium user's PSN store a day earlier, again would cost nothing to Sony. It's just a gimmick to ensure that Sony can pull you into spending a dedicated amount of money on PSN every year - i.e., to ensure they make money.

AND do you really expect the 'free' games to be top of the line ones? No, they'll be games over a year old and under £5 each when bought normally, anyway.

Uhm, no matter how good Live is, it's also paying for the ability to go online (something people already pay for with their provider)... If people go "Live is worth it", then why wouldn't people be persuaded by this if they really like it?

If they are throwing in PSOne games (or introduce PS2 games) into the selectable "free" games this may interest many gamers.

This is online subscription done right. I'd seriously consider PSN Premium depending on the quality of these free games.

I've never been very inclined to trust VG247.

To be fair we don't know how many extra features will be added into the final service. In terms of profitability for Sony, I agree this is a good idea. They setup a few extra services, and give users a game to download every month and charge £50 per month (or 49.99 ) and don't forget that Sony charges 3rd-parties a small amount for bandwidth.

Finally, a game every month doesn't mean they'll be over a year old or cheap. If you look at what Valve have done with their offers on Steam, there have been some amazing bargains, and even some of the special offers on PSN have been good value.

One thing Id like to see is extending the "watchable" time for rented movies on PSN. We rent movies from time to time and its nice to be able to download them quickly and watch, but 24 hrs is just too short. Sometimes the wife will fall asleep and have to work the next day, Ill finish the movie but it will be expired by the time she sits down to finish the movie.

i couldnt agree more, hahahaha dont get tricked!

Cool, a bunch of people will pay for this and allow me to continue to game for free online. Sounds good. They could add some features that people have been requesting and make them premium only. Sure beats Microsoft's tactic of making silver worse to make gold seem better.

They should add trophies for subscribing to this premium service. Bronze for 1,3,6 months of subscription, silver for a year, gold for 2 years. Or how about premium-only trophies that are uber hard and don't count towards a platinum? Would be an effective way to get trophy whores to try the premium service.

if they do that...they probably wont be good games...likely ones that most people would never even consider buying.
there isnt actually much information here, so i cant say much more than that until i hear some more first

"“If you work it out, PSN games cost an average of £6-9 each, so over a year you’re basically going to be breaking even,” said our source.".

So much for "PSN will always be free".

???

i live outside The United State, my country is not a supported country, so in my PSN profile i choose united stated, but still i cant use any credit card to buy anything in the PSN store because the billing adress of the card has to be in the united states that or is Ip related, i cant get video store either , i have to buy PSN cards at ebay to buy PSN game and some stuff,  so , will i be able to get the premium service ? will i be able to pay for it with a PSN card?
