The TS kind of beats his own point by saying the 360 sold over 40 million, with VGChartz having that lower aswell lol. But seriously that's shipped, but it is kind of a big difference.

As has been said before, PS3-360 gap is probably around 4.5 million right now. Also the ''gap'' is become less and less relevant over time anyway, since total numbers for both keep rising. 4.5 million is getting closes to being less than 10% of the PS3 total install base anyway.

Yeah, 2 months later they've probably shipped another million on top of this.

Oh and i forgot, shipped is still good news for Sony since their making profit on each PS3 sold now.

Too tired to get into this too much but Carl has already said all that needs to be said.  Nonetheless I'd be willing to bet the thread will continue for another 50+ posts until the Source or ioi sweep in, lay a little number smackdown and put the issue to rest.

Could it be because Sony and Microsoft maybe use sold in a different way? Maybe Microsoft uses sold as shipped, but Sony uses sold with units in a purchase order from one of their clients. In networking products, you can buy what it's at the warehouse, or you can order it to fabric, usually if the number of units is above normal, or if it's a periodic purchase of a big enough number of units to compensate. If you order it, there is a ~4 weeks period of manufacturing, and another ~4 weeks by ship. Maybe not that 8 weeks apply to consoles as well, but 3-4 weeks, and the consoles ordered but not shipped can explain the difference between Sony sold numbers, and all the tracking agencies/websites, including VGChartz.

Good job Sony and Hell No its not shipped, you can't find a PS3 where I live, they are sold out everywhere. Great job Sony keep it up, There will always be Haters out there to Hate, Instead of Congratulate.

Considering Sony were experiencing severe stock shortages during the release of God of War 3, i think that going to 1million sitting on shelves to be a little hard to fathom.

That would be an impressive manufacturing capability if that was...
