Best selling video game console... that's an amazing achievement. Especially if it's able to do it this year

Well I was mostly talking about the iPod touch where you can do pretty much the same as a Mac (on a much smaller scale of course).

I'll never ever consider handhelds and consoles the same. It's a whole different experience at least for me. I don't like handheld much while I really enjoy consoles. That's why I'm saying it's not the same market.

Just becuase you seperate them does not mean consumers do. The only difference between the two is one is handheld and one is not. Since consumers are buying a videogame system, they are comparable. Consumers don't segment markets like that.

Who cares if it's not the same, -Console- or -Handheld- they are both gamming systems, And also i bealive the PS2 had an advantage last Gen when DVD was becomming a Standard i knew people who bought PS2's just to watch movies.

Technically , they are consoles with their own screen and power source....so they are consoles just portable.

And that analogy is horrendous...a mac is a fully functional computer while the Ipod/touch is just a multimedia device.....the Ipod/touch cant do all the things a mac can do.

The DS can play games.....just like the rest of the home consoles.

146 million is not the number of PS3 sold to consumers - it is an artifiact of Sony tracking units produced for most of the PS2's life, ie it includes many consoles that were given to customers as part of the warranty.

3ds is coming out this financial year in Japan, that is all that has been confirmed. That may be 2010 or early 2011, and the Western release date is like 6 months later. The DS will likely sell for many years after the 3DS launch, and will in all probability see a price cut sometime soon around the 3ds launch

Last week the DS outsold the PS2 by 220,000 units. If it was to continue outselling it by 220,000 average every week, it would take the DS about 32 weeks to overtake the PS2, or about 7 months and a week or so.

Given that 220,000 is low for how much it outsells the PS2 on an average weekly basis, we can almost certainly say it will be ahead before that time comes.

I'm going to go with mid-November for the date, myself.

Going by your logic, we should consider the Tamagotchi as a console.

DS shipments numbers to be around 143M end of the year, maybe if Nintendo cuts the price it will shoot up again near Xmas, if 3DS comes in japan only this year then it has a massive chance.
