What about Nintendo adding 3D pointing control to 3DS?

Ok let's discuss this idea: what if 3DS had 3D pointing stylus controls that could interact with the games like in this exemple:

It would use the camera to track where the extremity of the stylus is quite like the pointing aspect of the PS Move but without motion controls. It could determine where you point your stylus and how far you point it from the screen and of course it will use this data to interact with the game. I think it will be perfect to have the impression to interact with 3D elements.

Here is a little exemple:

Do you think that could work? How the association of a 3D display and 3D pointing could be used in games? Which IP could take the more advantage of this?

I was sure that this is what they would do, but then I realized it wouldn't work if the "3d" visuals could be turned on/off.

Hmm, that's a good remark. I think it could still work even with 3D turned off. Of course it would be much better to have the feeling to interact directly with the things that seem to pop out of the screen but without 3D you could still interact with them more like we do on the wii when you have to point at things and like we will when we will use the PS move. 3D give the impression to really hold the things but games could still be playable without it imo.

well only the 3d would be turned off not the way you control it. you can still do it the way it is shown without the 3d that pops out

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

For this to work, there would have to be some kind of a button on the stylus, no? Otherwise you'd be accidentally moving things. Without the "3d" aspect, it would be hard to see where to point to manipulate objects.

Also it would be too easily copied by Microsoft and Sony, who are developing Motion Control + 3d systems of their own.

Again, I was almost sure they would do this, but I'm thinking twice. It might be something entirely different. Something tells me "3d" is a big, giant red herring.

I agree that a button on the stylus would be a neat addition indeed. As you would hold the 3DS with your other hand you could still use buttons/the D-pad and a shoulder button but having another button could be helpful.

Though without the 3D I don't think you wouldn't know where to point: you would still have a cursor or your character on the screen that would show you where is your pointer in the 3D environment. That's how I see this working...

I would be interesting, but it won't happen. The camera position to screen and player distant ratio is to small. Though it would be nifty.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Maybe they could do something with pressure sensitive touch screens but I doubt that the 3DS will have that kind of tech in a small package.

Yes that's a possibility. I can't say for sure that this wouldn't be a problem, I honestly don't know :/.

If nintendo finds a way to make that work on a small screen that would be great *-*
