No excuse for anyone not to get this!

If it doesn't work on my machine there is no point me getting it.

uhhh why? If you get it, it will be yours forever, and then you can play it when you have a stronger computer...

Besides, is it so hard to click on the red button to find out the requirements? :

Dunno about a red button, but I did check it out on "Can You Run It" .... it says yes (although puts a ? for Windows 7 but I don't think that will be a problem) but I am not sure how accurate it is, or indeed specifics about graphics drivers etc, my laptop is the cheapest Dell there was, and as such has no dedicated graphics card. It runs GTA:San Andreas, but only on low settings.... Portal looks like it will need more. Also that yes is a close call for processor (1.7 vs 1.77Ghz)

TWRoO:  Please listen carefully to what I am about to say.

The system requirements don't matter.  If your computer currently can't play the game, you can still get it for free.  When you get a newer computer later in life -- 6 months, 6 years, I don't care -- that computer will surely be able to play it.  If not, you can play it later still.  Or hell, you can put Steam on a friend's (better) computer and play it there, or just let him use your Steam account to play it.

Download now.  Ask questions later.  I'm about to temporarily usurp my sig for ad purposes.

Thanks shio!

My problem is I would rather not have junk on my computer that is useless.... I would happily pay £5 or whatever for the game in 5 years time when I buy a new machine.... I might also have my own mouse by then, and somewhere to put that mouse other than on top of my laptops keyboard.

I also don't like suffering all the wank that PC gaming comes with, I just downloaded the Steam uploader and it already had an error updating.

However I am going to download it, just not now as it said it would take 2h 48 to do so, and it is almost midnight here.

It's going to be a big download. However, what you can do once you download it is go to your games list and right click on Portal and select 'backup game files'. If you make a backup, you can burn it to a disk and then you can remove Portal from your computer so you wont have to worry about any wasted hard drive space and then you can easily pop in the disk and have it reinstall Steam and/or Portal on any computer you please.

Heck you might not even need to actually finish downloading it as I'm sure Portal is in your account now so you can have access to it whenever you want.

Buy this people. I already have it on PS3 but I think I'll still download it.

It's a hundred times better on PC. EVERY gamer should own it first and foremost on PC, then consider it on the other systems.

nah not even close.

Awesome deal though.

You're right. It's probably closer to 200x.

@Boutros - To expand on what Shio said, let me first state that I am first and foremost a console gamer. I play most games on consoles, but I will always believe that first-person shooters are forever best on PC. Besides, the Dualshock series of controllers are horrid for the FPS genre, anyways.

But besides superior control, you're also getting it on the platform it was intended and originally developed for. The PS3 port of the Orange Box was shoddy - not even done in-house - and faces bugs and glitches (though they're relatively minor and aren't even guaranteed to be experienced). The 360 version, which WAS in-house, is nowhere near the quality of the PC version either, because:

(1) both console versions are graphically inferior to the PC edition, which has many settings that can be tweaked much higher than the console editions allow.

(2) PC edition is a ton clearer and crisper, thanks to almost all PC monitors running at a higher resolution than TVs allow. 1080p is a higher res than most PC monitors, but the problem is, the console versions of the game don't support resolutions that high anyways.

(3) Level editing and mods give the PC/Mac versions a plethora of additional options, as Shio stated.

(4) And on top of that, there's a way to tweak your game files (which DOESN'T mess up anything) to play Half-Life 2 with the portal gun. Or play Portal with Half-Life 2 weapons. Forget about even CONSIDERING that on consoles.

@TWRoO - I may be mistaken, but I don't think you have to download it to tie it to your Steam account, anyways. Just click the red-button link and it'll automatically tie the game to your account. It starts downloading/installing the game immediately by default, but you can stop that and just let it stay attached to your account, waiting for you to beckon it forth...

nah it's getting colder.

I could agree on being 1.5 times better thx to Prelude, but I'm not going any higher.
