Forums - Website Topics - Hmm, I got banned...and I've no idea why

I've been visiting VGchartz for a while, though id finally make an account to make some comments and whatnot. After 3 comments, my account was banned for apparantly being a "new trolling account", yet i can safely say I've not posted anything that could be constituted as remotely trolling.

Also, shouldnt i get notified that ive been banned? I found out when I couldnt log in and got redirected to the profile page, no email or anything...no way to complain or try and get it reversed either. Guess ill wait till 2035 to use it again...

We have a lot of angry users that troll, get banned, re-register, troll again, get banned etc. It's something of a hobby for many users to spot the recurring ones like hus and gballzack. =P

Sometimes an innocent newbie gets hit by over-zealous mods, which I imagine must suck like black holes with vacuum cleaner. It's generally encouraged to email a mod or ioi if you've been wrongfully banned, but I haven't tried it myself, so I dunno how well that works.

You might want to make a "hi, I'm new!" post or something, as a new member jumping straight into a discussion like they've been here for ages is pretty suspicious.

Yea I see what ya mean, makes sense. Thanks mate.

What account was banned?  As far as I know, first time offenders are only banned for a short time (ie; days), unless they did something really bad....

Just curious...  when you are banned is there anything you can do?  IE: Can you login and still read, but not post, etc?

I cant log in, it just redirects me to the profile page as if I was looking at a random profile and says its banned till 04/14/35.

The account is Bladeneo.

Note I said usually, does not denote always; Last week they had SMG, obviously sales are gonna spike. But, otherwise, they are USUALLY rather poor...In terms of their massive install base. Oh wait, I've already said that once, darn me repeating myself.

Thats enough to warrant a 30 year ban?...Interesting, ill make sure I dont say anything, at all :P Thanks for the help.

Well, if you start your first post talking about poor Wii software sales people might think you are here just to troll. Especially since Wii just sold 2.5M units of software this week in the Americas alone. And even for lifetime software sales for Wii it is a highly debatable issue whether software sales on Wii are good or bad.

Edit: Of course I would expect mods to first give people a warning before actually starting to ban an account. But then again, they might have mistaken you for some user that already got banned before and in those cases I can imagine a mod banning these users immediately. Still it would be nice if they got of message and a way to contact a mod to defend their actions to have a chance to be reinstated.

I would say that falls under remotely trolling.  That said, I don't think it deserve a ban without some sort of warning...  I have seen people get away with far worse comments...

The problem is I think new users are banned quicker because they are easily confused as people who were just banned making newaccounts, and unfortunately new users are also the people who don't know how to politically phrase their opinions without coming off as trolling...

""the people who don't know how to politically phrase their opinions without coming off as trolling... ""

+1 for you
