I have 250 days spent on WoW and I'm a very successful college student. Your friend is just a weak minded loser. End of story.

Of course Obama has a point.

I used to play video games way too much, but I've been cutting back on them a lot. I'd have to say a ton of aspects of my life got better.

Everything in moderation, definitely.

Sorry, I don't listen to someone who confirms he doen't know what he talking about in the same sentence he's trying to make a 'solid statement'. At best, he's trying to not anger people with his statement and comes across as 'half-way' on the topic. At worse, he truly doesn't know what he's talking about and is saying it just for political points.

In any event, my view is that games are not the problem, but the way people use them. You could just as soon blame TV, movies or even books as being a distraction. Its been proven quite extensively that games still are not as widespread as any of those mediums, but why do they get singled out? Heck, why isn't he making a statement against the porn industry? Where's the productivity and future in that? Yet its a billion dollar industry as well.

The fact is, 'games' are not the problem. Its the people playing the games who cannot control themselves who are. You could just as soon take away someones TV set than take away their XBOX. Neither one is going to solve the problem. They'll still find something else to become an excuse instead of doing homework, going to work, interacting with family. Be it drugs, smoking, even browsing forums online.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

World of Warcraft isn't on iPhone, iPad, Xbox, or Playstation, so he does not have a point.

Obama really doesn’t have a point. Obsession over a form of entertainment (videogames, movies, music or books), food, exercise, or any form of addiction is usually the symptom of a problem; and it is rarely the cause.

People need to learn how to practice self-control. Everyone has antisocial days, weeks, months.

Days, weeks and even months...

It's ok to be antisocial if you don't have a job that involves much interaction with people (if any), but the problem is that most of the best jobs out there involve a lot of interactivity and/or teamwork.  Having antisocial weeks or months could easily cost you your job; that is, if being antisocial harms either your production or quality of work.  In most cases I'd say being antisocial will, because it's difficult to be connected with what your boss/client/customer wants if you're off in la-la land or have trouble communicating with people.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Indeed... he basically sounds like those old men senators who still complain about TV. Oh if only we could go back to the days where there was almost no entertaiment and people were unhappy worked the fields a couple hours then laid in bed all day so as to not needlessly use up energy.

Furthermore, it's not really the President's place to tell individuals what is or isn't a constructive use of their time.

A)  "Constructive" use is a silly term.

B)  Videogames have MANY constructive uses sociologically and psychologically.  For example they help people bond... etc.

It was explained best when he said "None of which I know how to use".  That's largely the point... he doesn't know anything about it and is just parroting the opinion that change = bad.

Which is really... ironic.

You and Obama do not have a point.

So what if I'm going to pull an all nighter with Monster Hunter Tri tonight? So what? I don't have a problem.

You you callin' a psycho?

Video games have their hazard points, but it goes hand-in-hand with the mental state of the person playing video games. I do my work for school and fit my gaming into my schedule while socializing in great harmony. Obama needs to be talking to the parents of younger students if he wants to get his point across. It's irrelevant for him to be blathering on to college graduates at commencement speeches when they've already graduated. To add to this, it is pointless for him to go on about gaming when we live in a service industry which entertainment is nearly as the helm of. Our countries economy's staple point is service. He must've forgotten this in Harvard; to add with that, he forgot that it is a personal choice to play video games. We consume the most goods and services than any country in the world. His "pressures" need to come with a plan...unlike most of his empty talk.

obama is right, people are taking what he said too far. He said video games are a distraction, not that they shouldn't exist or even that video games are completely bad. They are good in moderation like many things in life, but some people can take it too far and that takes away from more important things. It would be different if Obama was actually making laws against video games, but he hasn't done anything of the sort.

So a hobby of mine is a distraction?
