Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD Comparison: First 4 months in the USA

This shows software for the same period, although Wii hardware is higher the sales for Xbox on software is higher.

N64 and Wii are so similar! Dreamcast as well!!!

I think if Wii Sports was counted as external software sales things would look a little different with Wii though as you can add another 1.8 million to that.

PS3's launch was not all that bad, but the software sales in U.S and Japan have been troubling.

PS3's s/w sales have been steady in U.K despite the 80% drop (which is obvious after a launch, sony has the tendency to stock up and flood the market during launches), Resistance and Motostorm are still finding place in the top 3. Which goes to show first week sales of PS3 software would have been amazing.

Sony basically wiped the floor with MS and Nintendo with its spectacular launch s/w sales across europe. Nintendo 3rd party sales should improve once publishers assign better development teams. Red Steel and Rayman did well because they were supported by great developers and not fourth string developers who pushed tripe like Farcry for Wii.

Unless Sony stops hemmoraging exclusives like Devil May Cry 4, Assasins Creed, Mercinaries 2, Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3,  etc.. they are going to find the going tough in the U.S.

Sales of exclusives  Lair,  Heavenly Sword will be critical for Sony.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>

"an expensive version of the exact same system we already own with slightly better graphics"

LOL

perfect description of the wii.

So the Gamecube was a system that was focused on inovative gameplay through the use of motion control?

happysqurriel, don't even bother arguing with hus. :)

btw, anyone else's area is still soldout on the wii? silicon valley here has been 0 stores out of 20 has wii in stock for the past month or more and ps3 has been 20 out of 20 stores available.  my coworker haven't figured out how to get a wii console (not bundle) without calling up stores asking when they have it in stock and without lining up before the store opens.

Currently loving my Wii x2, Xbox 360 Pro & Xbox 360 Arcade, and Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Limited "Cloud Black" 160GB PS3

GAMEFLY & GOOZEX FTW

In Sacramento area of CA it is still sold out everywhere. I got mine at launch (luckily I reserved). Then I randomly found 1 at TRU is December for my brothers. Since then I have only seen Wiis once at Wal-Mart and there were 3.

Also accessories are still hard to find. I will see 1 of the 3 controllers in stock from time to time, but rarely more than 1 type. i.e. it seems like BB will have Remotes one week, then Nunchuks, then Classic, a whole bunch of 1 and none of the others...

I will be interested in the sales for May. Launches will all be over, Wii might be able to ship more by then, and we might see what the demand actually is for the Wii. Since it is still supply constrained it is a lot harder to sell.

Hus, have you actually played the Wii?

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

i assume your loyalty is to Sony. Just a guess.

I'm surpised the gamecube had the same numbers as PS2. I wonder how it would have done had it launched at the same time as PS2

People like to look at these charts and say "see, you can't tell how well a system will do from the launch."

Maybe so. A system can launch good or bad based on the brand, the marketing, and the supply.

What I'd like to look at is first 3 months vs. second 3 months.

You're going to see big drop-offs for the GC, XB, PS3, even a fairly big drop-off for N64 I think... And great maintaining of sales for Wii, PS2, and even 360.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
