Oh I have a 1680x1050 samsung monitor. 22 inch.

I do want to upgrade to a 2560x1600 monitor sometime in the future though. I can't find one I want right now though. What would I need for max settings in crysis at that res? I am leaning more to the 5850 or 5870. The 5970 makes my mouth water. But it costs almost as much as I paid for my computer.

That monitor change probably wont happen until 2011. I may go 3D instead too. I am not sure yet. If I do ATI is out of the question right? They have no 3d? God video cards are so confusing o.o

At 2560x1600 you will need a 5970 to run Crysis on highest. And even a 5970 will struggle if you put on AA and stuff.

Don't worry about ATI and 3-D. It will come. ATI has already taken initiative to create an open standard for 3-D. I estimate 6 to 12 months (tops) for it to be on the market.

I'd definitely go for the 5870 if I were you, especially if you're thinking of going 2560x1600 or 3D.  I know Radeons don't have 3D as yet but if they do support it it will likely cause a nice hit to your frame rate, as it does with Nvidia 3D atm. I personaaly wouldn't get a 5970 as I'm not too keen on multi GPU setups (done it a couple of times and it can be a bit hit and miss tbh, and waiting for driver support in new games sucks too). And besides, you could always add another 5870 down the line if you want anyway, once they become cheaper.

Would dual 9870s be better for a that resolution than a single 5970?

No, why? You know the 5970 is dual 5870s lol (only with minor clock rate tweaks).

Oh, I did not know that. Hahaha. Okay. Well then. I may just get one of those and hope for the best when I get the huge monitor. Now if only newegg would have a sale on them...

You may as well get the HD 5850/70 now. By the time you get a 30" monitor you could buy a $200-300 GPU which could run that 30" monitor very well and play the modern games at the time at full settings.

Tease.

Yes, why not...

The 5970 has both GPUs on a single PCB. Due to thermal dissipation problems, 5970s are clocked slower than single 5870s (I think they are usually clocked at 5850 speeds). Your 5870CF setup will perform better than a 5970, in general.

(A Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 CrossFire beats a Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 OC Edition by roughly 6%, but at a much higher price difference, at least in Europe).

I guess I will go with a 5870. What is a good brand?

They're all good. Same quality, all made in Taiwan.

Buy the cheapest which usually is Sapphire since they have the cheapest packaging and thinnest manual lol.
