Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is the Halo series even overrated anymore? (By gamers that is)

Is Halo overrated anymore by the gaming community? I say fuck no! Not even close, hell it's a lot close for being underrated than overrated by the gaming community.

Sure the media and journalists pay tons and tons of attention to Halo, but think about the gaming community. If you make a thread asking their favorite first-person shooters or favorite games, Halo is one of the least chosen games. Hell, even games like fucking Haze and Black are chosen more than Halo. When a person makes a negative statement towards a Halo game they're often flirted with compliments, however if they make a positive statement towards Halo they are often insulted. Very few gamers within the community are fond of the series or any game within the series. People claim it's overrated by a lot of gamers, but in reality it's not. Even the Halo haters are more vocal than the fanatics. Even games like Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil, Killer7, and Lost Odyssey are closer to being overrated than Halo by the gaming community. If you ask me, currently it's a lot more overrated to mindlessly hate Halo than to mindlessly love it.

I'm not of the fan of the series as a whole by the way. I love the first game, I strongly disliked Halo 2 and I liked Halo 3 but not as much as Halo CE. Halo 3 ODST was very good but it was overpriced for an expansion pack, Halo Wars was fairly decent console RTS. Is the Halo series even overrated by the gaming community anymore?

I personally don't understand why people say Halo is overrated. But at the same time it's not underrated.

Whenever there's a big franchise like Halo, there's no way there won't be any haters. And you know haters will claim Halo as 'stale' and 'overrated'.

If there ever was a major reason for me to buy a X360, it would be because of Halo.

I would like to awnser-back but I don't want to respod to fanboys, my opinion and they're opinion won't change anyway, so it's useless. I just say that for multiplayer I prefer Unreal Tournament on PC and Timesplitters on console.

i do not think Halo is overrated at all, but I do think since the development of Reach that the Halo franchise is a better gaming experience because , I think with the added element's to the way you play Halo in multiplayer game's ,The new dynamics added for reach make playing Halo.
A new experience in playing Halo.

what i mean is it seem's, Not since the first Halo, that Reach has added new play elements into Halo that changes the feel of Halo. Now some may not like these New game element's added, but I feel that it changed Halo's direction enough to make the experience of playing Hale fresh and New.

an I am not into FPS much it's not my genre of game's that i play most of the time, when i can play game's but, it does seem to me reach has kinda rebooted the play experience of Halo, which is to some a good thing.

I AM BOLO

100% lover "nothing else matter's" after that...

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention Haze as being their favourite FPS...

I hear more people praise Halo to the high heavens than I see people attacking it, just because it's not everyone's favourite game, doesn't mean that they don't like it all.

I personally don't get what's meant to be great about Halo, when I can find other shooter's that provide me with a better experience. I respect the game for what it is and I hope that the next game makes people happy, just because it sell's heaps and certain 'enthusiasts' will sacrifice goat's to the online experience, it doesn't mean that I have to like it.

P.S. Bioshock is much better and far more underrated ;)

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Isn't Halo a casual FPS? VGC users are more hardcore and look down on casual games. It makes perfect sense.

For a lack of a better word: Halo is casualcore.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

If you want to survive on the internets, I suggest two things

1) Sources. Which threads are you talking about?

2) Toughen up. So some people dislike the franchise. They may have teased you about it. What you need to recognise is that everyone is entitled to their opinion, if someone wants to hate it they can, but you (and millions of others) can continue to like it. I happen to dislike Halo, and very much dislike the fact that now all games seem to want to be like it, however this is my opinion and I never try to present it as a fact

Halo has been the best FPS this gen and last imo. I think people hate it because it's popular which is a pretty stupid reason. Final Fantasy VII gets the same kinda hate, which is annoying because it's clearly one of the best games ever. Apparently it's cool to hate popular things. =P

Halo its not a overrated franchise , good music , fun , good story the only thing I don't like about Halo (IMO) its the movement, just a little too slow for me.

The Halo franchise got great sale and deserve it.
