I agree, expecially since Nintendo are starting gen 8 this year.

I love the boldness of your prediction, just like "Bam! There it is!"

OT: Wow, didn't realize the numbers had done that. You just might be right.

I don't make the rules, Nintendo does. And good job on the pun.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

For the first time since the ps1 launched, you're right.
But you should not forget how Nintendo was pummeled almost into oblivion for 2 generations.

The ps3 has shipped and sold more than both nintendos previous consoles. and the Wii may never hit PS1 or PS2 dominance.

Yea, its convenient how you forget to mention that they were ALWAYS profitable, so they were never "pummeled" according to your definition of success.

And in case you didn't notice i said gen. 8 starts with the 3DS. The business model includes both handhelds and consoles.

Yeah I've been thinking the same recently, how does this bode for the next generation in your opinion Source?

If by "pummeled", you mean the company that made the most money yet was in 3rd place in sales, okay. I don't think Nintendo would mind being in 3rd place again, at all.

Achievement is its own reward, pride only obscures.

HATING OPHELIA- Coming soon from Markosia Comics!

It could be so. In that case it will speed up rather than slow down the march of the next generation consoles to our living rooms.

Tease.

Am I reading the numbers correct, or do they show Wii as the main culprit (due to the big YOY drop) with 360 showing a slight decline and PS3 actually still trending up for HW?

While overall the generation may be dipping given the staggered launch I'd be interested to know how each console is performing, too. For example I wouldn't expect the PS3 to peak until at least a year after the 360 does.

The Wii is the baffling one. It shouldn't be peaking this early if the 360 is only now showing a slight dip and PS3 is still actually working towards its peak.

It's going to be interesting to see how Natal and Move land, how GT5 and Reach work out and what Nintendo do to stimulate HW sales and SW.

Or maybe I'm reading the data wrong.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Only 8 million X360s in FY 2011?

Okay it's tanking, but not that bad.

I'd wait till the end of the year to predict that, there's still a lot that can happen in just 2010 that can turn everything around.

Natal, Move, PSP price cut, GT5 etc.
