Forums - Sony Discussion - PS2 is pretty much dead and I blame Sony.

I think Sony will make PS2 games available in PS3 after price and games of PS1 be well explored and do a great selling... imagine getting PS2 games into PSN now.. PS1 games will drop too much... so, it´s just a time/proce adjustment to make ps2 games available, I think in 2011 will appear at PSN PS2 games..

The PS2 died because its old as fuck and people want a current gen console, not last gen.

Sony doesn't care about the PS2 because there really isn't much of a market for it anymore. The 'core' segment of the PS2 audience has moved on to the PS3, Xbox 360 and to a lesser extent the current generation of PC gaming. This segment places a lot of importance on graphics. The 'casual' segment on the PS2 has moved towards the Wii. To them, the motion controls are much more fresh than traditional gamepad gameplay. So really, the PS2 has nothing except for what's left of the value market (gamers who can't afford a Wii or Xbox 360 Arcade but can afford a PS2 Slim) and the hardcores who may already have current gen systems but still want to play PS2 games.

Also it's difficult for most gamers to be excited about old software. This is why you'll find that even the core gamers (well those ones who don't hate Nintendo. There are millions of self-proclaimed hardcore gamers who wouldn't even touch a Wii or DS) would sooner play a new DS game than play an old but more graphically impressive PS2 game.

Age and a new machine killed the PS2.

The Wii has BC for the GC, but when was the last time a Gamecube game came out?

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

What was the last major PS2 game release? Sakura Was if I remember and that hardly counts as big. I don't see B/C doing wonders for the gamecube. HW and software wise, the PS2 is doing excellent compared to previous market leaders.

You Sony fans always miss the point.

Let me give you an example. The PS1 had games all the way up to about 2005. Some PS1 titles were selling well throughout the life of PS2. Most notably that popular series called Final Fantasy. Even Konami was pushing Metal Gear Solid 1 for the PS2 userbase. And even after all these years people are still playing PS1 games on their PS3.

So if you don't get my point yet, I'm saying PS3 users would still be purchasing PS2 games if they had BC. Not every PS3 user would, but I think enough would to greatly increase overall PS2 software sales.

Dude the PS2 ran 10 years , what do you want, now Sony will emulate PS2 games, and sale them on PSN, you are looking at this the wrong way.

And if the PS3 was BC the software would stay relevant and sales would be up. Thus prolonging the life of PS2 software development.
