Forums - Sony Discussion - Edge Review: ModNation Racers

An 8 from Edge? Dang, this must be a good game then!

Such cynicism. I was expecting balance from Edge and it looks like they delivered. Given their score for LBP and the fact that all previews to date said the create/share aspect of MNR was pretty tight I thought Edge would have a favourable opinion of this game.

What I do know is that Edge pulls no punches on flaws, except perhaps with their "teachers pet" games (no one's perfect and everyone tends to overlook the flaws of their favourites). So, interesting that the review doesn't mention load times at all. The major flaw they do point out is the handling heavier than they expected (compared to MK Wii). Lucky for me I've never played MK Wii so the MNR handling will basically feel normal to me. With any racer handling it's all about getting used to it. I'd be very surprised if the handling could be objectively described as bad or too difficult to control. We'll see I suppose but you can bet it'll become a wedge issue for those who want to keep MNR down. Just like floaty jumping in LBP makes it the worse 2D side scrolling platformer EVER, for some people (for me floaty jumping is all part of LBP's charm, sackboy wouldn't be as cute without it).

Wow, thanks for posting the Mario Kart scores, and it's sad they didn't review Sonic, oh well...

Jesus christ, it actually scored better than the Mario Kart games, except for DS, which I'll admit is a really good game to play on the go, especially with game sharing, but hot dayum that's good.

i don't understand their scoring thing, as if their reviews don't reflect on the scores at all.

on the mario one they talked about how its more of the same but good fun none the less then gave it a 10/10
on this one they're talking about new ideas and the game being solid , but they gave it a 8/10

do they throw a dice to make these scores ?

I recommend reading the entire review of both games instead of just grabbing a certain piece from each.  You're really just flaming Edge while doing so which isn't wise.

Even if their written review is good, the review score is what matters the most. And they're review scores can be ridiculous sometimes.

great score.

Unreliable review site. I frankly don;t care what other people think, I like cart racers, i like track creators hense i will own this game

Nice, it's a good score. But probably not for the right reasons. Edge tend to give the scores they feel are likely to get them more hits, over hyped games get shot down with 4s, and underhyped games get 8s.

Not necessarily true entirely, just a rough observation.

Oh yeah Edge...

Yeah I'm not sure if he was hoping it would get at least a 5. Or if he genuinely was hoping it would get a bad score...
