Oh you're right, I totally forgot this specific sentence. Well I think that totally confirms that they were indeed talking about this game. I'm not sure at all that this game will be "astonishing" though but it's not a big surprise that Nintendo Power overhyped it.

- the picture of space > the setting of this new sonic

It seems pretty obvious now. Nintendo Power unveilling a huge Nintendo title like Starfox for example was always unlikely so I'm not that surprised. They also unveiled Sonic & The black knight so that makes a lot of sense:
