Forums - Microsoft Discussion - My Mass Effect (360) Review

With all that said, Bioware created an extremely believable universe with very interesting backstory and politics which is an impressive feat. I found myself reading all that codex stuff and really enjoying it. Because of all that and the story I am engrossed in the universe more than almost any game. Since it was set as a trilogy, I really expect to visit the big alien homeworlds in the next two games which should be epic. The Asari, Krogans and Quarians are all probably the most interesting and creative alien races I have seen in any videogame. If Bioware hadn't created such a great universe, the game would have been a lot less impressive to me. Mass Effect is a huge step up from KOTOR. Now that they've completed the basics, I really look forward to a bigger game in the next 2 with more of the universe opened up. Even though I'd probably rate Mario and Bioshock higher than this, I still think I like this game better if that makes any sense. I think it's because of the Mass Effect universe again.

I actually completely agree here.  I think they did a fantastic job at making a great universe with interesting races and I think they made a great stepping stone to make Mass Effect 2 a brilliant game.  Lets hope they learned from this game, fix the problems, and make Mass Effect 2 the incredible epic game that will be remembered for years that Mass Effect could have been.

Forgot to mention: the music. I'll only say that the first time I put in the game, I literally stayed on the title screen for minutes listening to it. That and the simple background of Earth and the moon really sent chills down my spine and set me up for this epic experience.

I agree, Mario and BioShock deserve better scores, but I still prefer Mass Effect.  I can see how the imperfections would bother some people more than others, but my own opinion of Mass Effect just happens to be more in line with the 92 average on Metacritic and Gametrailers than with some review written by an internet forum user.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

I was going to buy this game, because a guy at work told me it was good. However, after reading your post, my mind has been changed. You and Naznatips are better than most professional guys doing this. I think I'm going to pick up that Dragon Quest game instead.

See I like you. You don't excuse any flaws (probably because you are in the field yourself.)

Me i'm not so picky so it sounds i'll like it. Very valuable review though.

It's a very good game that gets in its own way at times. I don't see why people can't admit that the game isn't f***ing perfect. I love BioWare as much as the next guy but I'll have to side with Twesterm on this one. The game, though still great, could have been better.

Yeah sometime after the Holidays i may have to get a 360 to play it.  I have a friend who has a 360 but it RROD and Microsoft wouldn't fix it because the repair guys opened it up... so he's considering trading in all his 360 stuff and getting a Wii.

That and believe it or not... I actually want to play Bladestorm.  Even though noone else seems to want to.

Ouch.

Well, that is from one internet forum user to another...

Grandmaster don't buy another game only because 1 guy had a few problems with it. It is a great game that all 360 owners should check out. While it is not perfect it is an experience unlike any other out there right now.
