The game did feel weak. Considering when Fallout 2 came out, and that Fallout 3 was worse than it, I can't help but call it a disappointment.

Upon my recent revisiting of the series "GoG ftw" I found that the games have stood up horribly in the gameplay and graphics departments. Frankly, the only reason these games are so well remembers is because of the excellent though over-rated writing and humor, but they are antiquated and irrelivant considering less than 10 percent of gamers on this forum would be able to enjoy them at all thanks to said deficencies related to their release date and their nature as a slow paced, turn based RPG with a humerous narrative that bleeds nostalga.

In rose colored glasses land, old games are the only great games, and indeed, some older games like Pac-Man and Super Mario Brothers do stand the test of time thanks to their simply, intuitive, and fun gameplay, but if you've never visited the world of Fallout 2, and are thinking about taking the plunge, let me make a suggestion. Download the script.

Fallout 3 was doomed to fail in many people's eyes, yours included. There was absolutely no way it could have suceeded, and it's certainly not because the game is deficient in any way, nor is it because you share a similar dislike for the game, as the OP. The reason is simple. Instead of juding the game by its own merits, and appreciating it as a modern reinvigoration and intricately detailed well made lovingly crafted fucking loyal homage to one of your favorite masterpieces, you saw it as a challenge to the percieved quality of said masterpiece. No matter how great the game was(and make no mistake, it was fucking magic in my book) it wouldn't have cut mustard. Nothing else to say really.

That's the thing that gets me about a lot of PC fans, too. None of the new games stack up compared too their old favorites. That is, of course, directly opposite of console fans, who shit and giggle over every modern 1up we have the pleasure of playing(Galaxy 2, Uncharted 2, Gears 2, on and on and on.) Some would say that this signals the heyday of PC gaming has past and the console generation is upon us, but I disagree. I think TOB, Mario Galaxy, Fallout 3, ME2, LBP, Uncharted 2, are just as good of a game as any of the old "favorites" and I think most of those old "classics(some of which have never been appreciated by the reviewer community, if you care to gamerankings)" are the shrinking nobility to which we cling when nothing new is looking to take their place as far as exclusives go. As romantic as it sounds, to go back and replay Baldur's Gate II, after my previous experiences with Fallout II, I can tell you I've been spolied. I've been spolied by Voice Acting, and graphics, and control, and gameplay, and presentation, and all of the modern amminities that gaming has brought.

Sure, Fallout II invented the wheel, but let me present an analogy.

Fallout II

Fallout III

Now yes, the squiggly lines in the antiquated "tire" do make me laugh and endear me to its neanderthal lobbiest, but let's talk functionality for a second...

That said...opinions....objective...yadayadayada....Big Mama's House 2 vs The Godfather argument, ect.

Quick example, if it was even mildly as good as Fallout 2, I would have been able to walk up to Little Town and shot up all those retarded kids.

I am also sorry, but Fallout 2 is all around better given that graphics don't really count, you get a lot more "freedom" than you did in FO3. You are also very confused, because I can tell you right now, X-COM is better than any and every game released, and System Shock 2 is STILL better than BioShock. I have indeed replayed them. What pisses me off about the new generation of gamers is that they are actually ignorant of what a good game is because they never actually played the older games.

This also does not go only for PC games.SMB3 and Super Mario World are better than most platformers even today, definitely better than that phlegmatic retarded character in LBP, only game that you can argue is better at platforming are the new super mario bors. games. Funny, because they basically rip off everything from those originals. Recent agmes are jsut worse than previous ones, and not just on the PC.

Also, good thing you broufght up movies. They can easily be used as the same analogy. Godfather is just better in every way than Iron Man except for CGI, and only the immature give a damn about the CGI so much. In fact just like in movies, the more CGI improved, the more the genre started to produce crap.

If graphics don't count, then why do you play games on PC? Graphics is the NUMBER 1, and number 2/3/4 arugments for most PC gamers, and indeed, whenever I bring up the possibility of diminishing returns on graphics for consoles/PC in the next few gens(and how PC will obviously lose that advantage, due to this FACT) I get either shunned, or hushed to silence by those dancing around the question.

As far as your movie comparison goes, I don't think it's a good analogy. The quality of the film, and the CGI effects are not equatable to graphical differences.

Also, I don't think shooting childred in the head is a gamebreaker.

As far as your "recent games aren't as good as old ones" argument, I dealt with that in my original post. The argument to which we cling. It's just because of the time in our lives that we played those games, that they seem so much better, and more memorable. Nothing can stand up to the god-figures we've made in our heads, of old games, and replaying those old classics only adds to our nostalga and appreciate, it doesn't make us realize anything differently. I'll eat shit and die before I believe that TOB isn't BETTER than Half-Life 1 in every concievable way, including gameplay and story, and HL1 is probably the king of the "old games are better than new ones" argument.

Also, don't imply that I didn't play those games coming up. I'm a 30 year old man, not one of these forum kids. I have a job, and I was there when it started bro. I just have a different perspective than you, and believe me it, is not due to lack of knowledge or information, as the reason I disagree with you, it is simply a different opinion on the subject.

Because the shooter, rpg, and startegy genre is infinitely btter on the PC than on the consoles. For the same reason I also play paltformers and fighters on the consoles.

As for your argument, I dismantleded it. I have been playing all those old games very recently and they are all still better than recent games. SMB3 completely overshadows LBP, and don't even get me started on World. I don't want an exclusive PC game, I want a PC game that is better than the one back in 2000. Sadly there has been no such games. UT and Quake are still at the top of fast skill-based shooters and CS at the top of the slow squad based ones, you can argue TF2 stole that from them though.

I also dare you to tell me how X-COM has been bested by any game on any platform. As for SS2, maybe you need to play it alongside BioShock to see just how shallow BioShock is in comparison. Remove the flashiness and SS2 absolutely wipes the floor BioShock. Also don't even get me started on Deus Ex and how [athetic that makes any game that tries to be a hybrid. As for Hal-Life 1, that was already topped by plenty of games. Shooters stopped any progress back around 2005, not 1998. Currently it's HL2, it would be Metro 2033 if it was longer thanjsut 10 hours.

Why do you hate on modern games? You hate Fallout 3, Bioshock, LBP and so on. You really should  stop trolling on these games.

Because they are worse than games from 5 and 10 years ago. I can't even say BioShock was a shitty console port either, it's just a worse game than SS2.

Well to me its the best game ever, but i guess its not a game for everyone.
Just give it a try
Dont treat it like a normal game where you only go where you want and do what you have to
Do what you want, and explore, Thats Where this game Is at its Best.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

lol, fyi, every new successful franchise is some old genre "with guns," in gaming. I'm just waiting for LBP2 to get guns a outsell Gran Turismo. It's about time we got some .50's in that game to, btw.

False. WoW has outsold almost every game this generation, and combined with expansion packs it cetrianly is in the top 5, and it has no guns.

My Dwarven hunter begs to differ.

You must have never played WoW? It's full of guns.

Also, I haven't seen someone try to grasp at straws harder than you just did right there. Kind of funny actually, in a sad sort of way.

I'm a neutral third party in this argument but I have to say Zenfolder makes a good point and your response is to insult him so imo he wins the argument.

That is utterly false. There are no guns in the game. The flintlock rifles in the game are just a reskin of the bows in the game. As I said, it's as pathetic as any grasp at straws.
