Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No Call of Duty: Black Ops For Wii?

this thread has become a place to place random things!!

Around the Network

everybody here reminds me of the ppl who cried over gta4 but meanwhile some of us got bored of gta altogether after vice city on ps2..............

well I guess I'll get back to the point "boo"hoo" no cod on wii my be I'll go spend my 321$ on my ps3 and my 64$ on cod black ops, pfft if its not on wii I probably will not buy it because my wii doesn't play ps3/360games It only plays gamecube and wii games Owell

Jeffrey, not all games can be Half Life 2, or Zelda: Ocarina of Time, or Street Fighter II, etc...

Just because the last 3 CoD titles haven't been HF 2 doesn't mean they weren't enjoyable in their own form. Nothing wrong with variety. And nothing wrong with wanting HL 2 on Wii either. Why not both?

Just don't berate the hopes of those wanting CoD: BO on Wii simply because it's not HL 2.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

*sigh* Please people... cut the trolling... it's annoying and this is a freaking rerun of what happened last year... I mean CoD MW2 was listed on the Wii at gamestop and various other places early, then taken off, no word on a CoD game for Wii for a while, people trolled, then it actually did come, was quite good (cause it was CoD4) and then sold a million.

There, I busted the "there's no way it can come" I busted the "hardcore games don't go to Wii" I busted the "hardcore games don't sell" and I busted the "they only make crappy ports" or "the game is inferior"

Cut the trolling, have a nice discussion, even though frankly there isn't much here to discuss, its an early listing from a retailer that hasn't got a single word on any details, cause at this point I could speculate it could go to the Atari 2600 and it'd be just about as right until Activision announces it.

Nice opinion above. Just like mine.

Happy New Year dude.

The first point isn't really an opinion.  A wii game selling 1 million will not make more revenue than a HD game selling 3-4 million unless it is priced more than 3-4 times higher.  As for profit, the only way it would be true is if the cost of development was over $100 million.  You yourself said the break even point would be somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million.  If the HD game sold more beyond the break even point than the Wii game sold in total, then how could it make less money?

As for the ports there is less concrete information, but what would suggest the costs would be so high to require a million copies sold?  It takes less time and less people.  The God of War collection took 15 weeks, and that was with enhanced visuals and tropies added to two games.  Even if you made some absurd assumptions like only $10 per game and 100 employees, that would result in costs of around $350k per employee per year.

Games cost more to develop (not talking about scaled up PS2 ports, those might be even cheaper than the New Play Control for the Wii), HD games need much bigger promotion to sell, since PS3 or 360 don't have the same sales behavior as Wii software, which have great legs and in the HD front games have big opening week and then sink.

See the case for No More Heroes. First week both consoles were over Wii launch numbers, 2nd week is without surprises, lower. This despite having marketing, which pretty much didn't happen for the Wii version. Also, HD games hit the bargain bin much faster than Wii games, which are initially cheaper but maintain that price for a long period.

That's why its fair to call 1 million units the same as a 3 million seller on a single HD console.

Well, i have the three consoles... this may sounds bad but... i dont care.

@ Your guess is as good as mine.

Which is 1 million for the average HD game to break even (ports) and like 1.5 million for exclusives (those exclusives like, exclusives, that don't have PC version to share costs).

As for the Wii I think the average game needs to sell about ~300K. I've seen developers being "happy" with 200K but that seems the very low end.

I don't understand what you're trying to prove. The typical Wii game is shovelware. Obviously shovelware doesn't need to sell much.

Also, developers don't put much money into Wii games because 3rd party games typically don't sell very well. When they do, its basically a fluke that no one really expected or an already mega popular franchise.

Ultimately, the Wii library is riddled with games from developers just trying to cash out. That's nothing to boast about.

LOL, and I don't know what you are trying to disprove... I think we pretty much agree in what each other is saying.

And claiming that the typical Wii game is shovelware is trolling. It's the same as saying that the typical 360 lasts for a couple days before rroding, which isn't true.

I'll give the opportunity to edit that out before reporting you.

Well its not trolling when its true. Look at all the games coming this year for the Wii. Or try going to Gamestop, the wall of shovelware is almost staggering. If I said all Wii games are shovelware. Than yeah, that would be trolling.

Just because your local store sells crap, doesn't mean the worldwire picture look like that. Also, I think I am not wrong, Gamestop is a store that buys used stuff. So I am not surprised at all that they buy all the shovelware that uninformed people get and than regrets.

Gamestop and EB are more than my local store. They are the McDonalds of video games. They are all over the place.

Gamestop stocks just about everything that gets released on the Wii. You can't blame them for a majority of that being god awful crap. Most importantly, you can still find the good games wedged in there.

I believe your accolates of the Wii version of call of duty is more trolling than anything.  Every call of duty on the wii has sold a million+ its nothing new.  It's a marquie franchise that will sell on any system, even the ps2 version of WaW sold a million.  You add nothing to the conservation, just random gloating, which is odd for a moderator.
